burning a book does not silence the idea.

A bit daft, and not very environmentally friendly.
These days most books are digital - burning does little.
People, even in those days, can memorise books to rewrite again. -hence burning does little.
The burning of books and the destruction of history are crimes against humanity.
Fuck Julius Caesar and his burning of Alexandria!!!
His assassination didn't happen soon enough!
That's what I think of burning books.
It's one of the stupidest things one can do. A book is just a representation of someone's thoughts. They are already written, so burning will not change anything.
Well someday in the future there's going to be a big book burning fest that most people are going to participate in, that is going to be when the people start burning all the bibles.
No point in burning the easiest way to disprove christianity.
Stupidity as they can be recycled.
a lot comes down to reasons for burning them in the first place.
Depends on the books. If their illegal or harmful then destroy them.
But... who determines if it's illegal and harmful?
And just because something is legal doesn't make it right.
And laws change.
What's legal now might be outlawed in a few years.
Child pornography? Absolutely, burn that shit but a wholesale destruction of ideas... I'd leave that up to the people and then judge their actions.
If the purpose of the book is to promote the harm of others then I think there's a case for banning it. Similarly books expressing opinions should make it clear they are opinions and not accepted proven facts.
When a small group burns books they don't approve of, they draw more attention to their prejudices than they destroy them.
Ok... getting into some nuances... banning and burning aren't the same. Banning harmful materials in schools I'm for.
Burning, wholesale destruction of... child porn and promoting genocide... that level I'll support but I don't like the idea.
It surfaces memories of Nazi propaganda and their burning of books. ISIS destroying historical sites and documents, burning of Alexandria... and the general destruction and changing of history... elicits a strong Resistance to it.
Effectively, that is what social media is doing. Suppressing free speech.
Both parties do it. Hardly book burning, this war is being waged between the the people in the highest positions but the effects are shown in the streets by the public
Those that burn books should be thrown in with the books.
Don't give @goaded and Trudeau any more ideas...
You know it's Republicans and the right-wing banning and burning books, don't you?

I don’t like it.
I 100% disapprove.
It is a leftist idology and tool.
