Putin wants Ukraine because Ukraine is a key country between the Russian alliance and NATO. Ukraine is neutral, but if Ukraine joined NATO, Russian would essentially be landlocked (as it is now) and effectively powerless militarily for the foreseeable future due to not having an ocean supply line or a key military point.

Russia is also one of the biggest oil suppliers in the world, and its pipeline to Germany runs through Ukraine, so it's also kind of about money as well. If you look at it from Putin's perspective, if they don't get Ukraine, they will have no future as a powerful military or financial nation. Especially if Ukraine joined NATO, which pretty much every other eastern European country except Belarus has done.

And BECAUSE the Ukraine is not in NATO, they're effectively sitting ducks right now during this war. One could argue Putin is scared for Russia's future and thinks Ukraine would "betray" them and join NATO sometime in the future (and to be fair, there were talks of Ukraine joining NATO, as Putin wanted the Ukraine demilitarized and to essentially swear loyalty to Russia as well, like Belarus did).

In short, Putin's doing this to secure Russia's borders against military threats and secure Russia's economy via their pipeline to Europe. I don't agree with his actions, but I get it. He's scared Russia, but more specifically he, will lose power. Most of Russia doesn't even want this war, either. More than 1,500 Russian anti-war protesters have been arrested. Putin is going hard against his own people like the military is against Ukraine. Hell, most Russian SOLDIERS don't even want this war! Including the Russian commanders, who are trying to avoid as many Ukrainian casualties as possible.

Which brings me to MY point... All it takes is ONE brave Russian to put one between Putin's eyes and this could all be done and over with. Same goes for Trudeau. Not so much for Biden though, since he has no power. But still... All these moronic world leaders no one wants in power, and no one has the balls to do what's needed to be done.

    Electric bills: payed.

Ukrainian Mafiya: cleansed out of existence.

Biden family corruption: blown wide open, so Joe can be tried in the Hague. Hunter too.

Other corrupt members of Congress: exposed, tried, convicted, sentenced to death, executed. And good riddance! This includes rotten apple Republicans, such as Romney and Graham!

Ukraine itself: restructured into a less corrupt union, that will be favorable to Russia's interests.

Given that the current regime in Kiev is in bed with the very war criminals in the US Congress that financed ISIS, the rape of Egypt, the nuking of the Great Manmade River, and assassination of Qaddafi, I'm almost willing to overlook some of Putin's atrocities. He is the lesser evil, hard as that may be to believe.

That's not to say there are no innocent Ukrainians. I have a few old friends trapped there. Their government screwed them over by ignoring the red line. Now, they've been placed directly in harm's way! By both sides! Ukraine, using them as human shields, and Russia, deciding it would rather be safe (for Russia) than sorry, when it comes to eliminating snipers! So, I have no idea if any them will survive.

Something about getting the Old Union back together. Forgot where I read that. 🤔

    1. Putin's biggest fantasy is to restore Russia to the size and power it was when it was the USSR, and Ukraine would be a big chunk of that empire.
    2. Russian access to the Black Sea, and direct connection with its navy there.
    3. Paranoia over western attempts to lure Ukraine into NATO, and possible US military presence there.
    4. Concern of ethnic Russians in Ukraine. This is partly Russia's fault, as the Soviets in the 60s (dominated by Russia) decided to 'Russianize' the non-Russian areas in the Soviet Union by settling Russian families in them. These Russian transplants got to be in the drivers seat in these countries under the old system, but suddenly became powerless minorities when the Soviet system collapsed and these countries became independent. They were probably not REALLY being discriminated against, but Putin is always glad to stir up pro-Russian sentiment among them, and then ride to the rescue.

Two things... Ukraine back with Russia, like it was in the USSR... and a security buffer between Russia and NATO
