Blocking opposing thoughts is an echo chamber and cult like behavior. If you prefer your kids to be raised in that, more power to you, but that isn't how the world is. Other points of views exist outside your own and it's best to expose kids to it early and then speak to it rather than let them be teens and learn it then when they don't listen to your points of view anymore and make their own decisions. I would have an opportunity to speak to differing points of views for years while you are playing catch up.

Yes I am. We talk about whatever we want. I've had several discussions with both liberal and conservative coworkers about our beliefs (im a centrist for the record). I've even talked politics with my boss.

Teachers are human beings, not robots. School teaches so much more than 2×2. It teaches social interactions and life skills.

Your teachers, even if not allowed to teach it, still live it. Other students live it. For example, my kids have 2 mothers and they talk about their family life with friends just as your kids would about theirs.

You want them learning from their young peers who, over time, children will take their word over yours?

We have never shied away from opposing voices. They came into this world having 2 mothers. There are lots of people out there who hate our children just for existing because their mother and I have found a strong lesbian relationship that has lasted 20 years. Innocent children who had no say in the matter are hated by grown individuals.

Think about that.

If I shelter them from those kinds of voices then they will never grow stronger and be able to tune them out as they get older. They have come home and told us people said it's weird and we have had long discussions about it and now they are better prepared to deal with it in the future.

The same applies for religion in general. Im agnostic and yet we have done prayer at the table per their request (with them leading) when they went to a religious daycare.

I live what I preach. Expose yourself to differing points of view and be civil in your discussions. You don't leave yourself ignorant of the world that way and you help develop critical thinking skills in your children.

I dont expect my kids to grow up agreeing with everything my wife and I believe in nor would I want them to. I just want them to learn 1 major lesson, don't be a dick to others. That one I hope they carry with them all their life.

We absolutely can and don't get me wrong, I'm not saying we need to teach them how gay sex works, but what harm is there in teaching that not all families are the same? If they say some families have 2 mommies or 2 daddies or maybe just 1 and all of that is ok as long as the kids are taken care of then what's the harm? By not saying something you make those kids in non hetero/or single parent households feel like less than their peers and that should NEVER be our goal.

Its just my opinion that there's a time and a place for certain talks and discussions. If it something that is discussed due to a question I can understand that, but when I see tik toks of teachers who openly share and in my opinion some cases push their ideas and opinions onto kids it bugs me. Maybe more it depends on the situation.

Sure, I can agree to that, but this takes away all opportunities of time and place and that bugs me. It's the ostrich approach of sticking your head in the sand and hoping the gays go away.

I agree that maybe completely diverting a lesson to push political beliefs is not cool, but I have no problem if a classroom discussion goes there to be able to say something and then let parents speak to it. I'm DEFINITELY not ok with teachers being mandated to report to parents their kids may be gay or trans though. That's gonna get kids killed via suicide or asking them to be abused, especially since in Texas they are now going after parents of trans students for abuse.
