Why do Laws help protect the criminal rather than the victim?

I never understood this but why do societies help protect the criminal more than the victim? It makes no sense why would you want to give more rights to a criminal than a victim?
A man rapes a woman and it's a whole soap in court where they try to portray the woman as a whore and a skank.

Assuming you talk about democracies/republics criminal and victim have the same rights before the law.
Systems like this work after the method of innocent until proven guilty. Unless you can´t prove a person has done the crime he´s not a criminal.
So the predicted criminal does everything to prevent himself from being proven guilty, while the victim has to bring up proofs to show not only that she was raped in that case but also that he has raped her.

People should be given the benefit of the doubt. The state with all our tax resources should be required to prove beyond a reasonable doubt a crime happened. The state has way more resources and influence from the cops up to the judge even
executioner. This is why we get peers involved with jury duty.

Only way to make this a fair and a justified trial is for the state to shoulder the greatest burden for any conviction.

By... requiring solid proof? Look back to the witch hunting days. Maybe we actually learned a lesson.

Of course the system isn't perfect and I doubt you would find a single person who if they sat down and studied a good amount of laws would agree with all of them.
