I saw on a YouTube video Russian people aren’t being shown the real news about what is happening in Ukraine. Do you believe this sounds true?

Back in the Soviet era, the Russians had a news agency called "Tass", which provided coverage of world events that just as laughably inaccurate as you'd expect state-run media to be, especially given that they didn't allow private or foreign media in. With pretty much every western media outlet refusing to business with/in Russia because of the current crisis, odds are things now aren't much better than they were under Stalin, so far as keeping the people informed goes.

I suspect the average Russian is about as well-informed about this invasion as the average Chinese person is about the Tienanmen square riots.

One of the first things the Russians did when they invaded Ukraine, was to shut down all independent media in Russia, tv, internet, news papers etc.

The only news the average Russian gets is State news, which is whatever the government wants people to know.

Anyone found listening or watching news from outside of Russia and telling others, faces arrest.

Of course, Russia has no free press, it's a brainwashed totalitarian shithole in which you go to jail or get "disappeared" for publicly saying anything that the Kremlin doesn't like.

As a result, the average Russian brain is filled with ethnofascist ideals and delusions of grandeur, the common consensus in Russia is utterly detached from reality.

Chinese people were never actually shown the dead bodies of their own troops that died when there was a conflict at the border with India
So it's very possible for govt to keep control and show what they want

Yes it´s very likely. All the social media plattforms where they could inform themselves are shut off including all Russian speaking media plattforms that aren´t supporting the government.
