World population rises after war and plague. Resources are freed up and the depopulation leads to increased demand for automation which drastically improves living standards for the survivors. 80 percent of Europe died in the crisis of the lage ages during the 1300s and out of it came the Renaissance and automative technologies like the plow, printing press, and windmills.

Technological growth tends to happen after depopulation, and after living standards increase, population growth increases.

Population started accelerating after episodes of population implosion. One was the Great Famine, and plague of 1300s. Another was the Industrial Revolution after the age of revolution and crisis of the 17th century.

And the other was the early 20th century, two world wars, fascist and communist revolutions, Spanish civil war and pandemics.
