Are prisons in America so bad?

From what I've seen in movies, prisons in America are a terrible place. A place where one would never want to fall. Gangs are formed inside the prison, newly arrived inmates are treated very badly, inmates kill or hurt each other, guards mistreat, food is terrible and many more. Are prisons in America really like in the movies? Or is it a modern place where the food is quite ideal, the guards are well behaved, no prisoners kill or injure each other, no one is excluded?

Very bad. Poor conditions, unsafe, poor diets and can be extremely cruel to inmates by keeping them isolated if they misbehave which will drive someone to literal insanity.

How do you know that this is so? Have you ever been to jail before? Or do you work in prison? Or did someone else tell you that? meanwhile, although prisons are very bad in America, the crime rate in America never decreases. Who would want to stay in such bad prisons? Most people without shelter, food to eat are ready to commit crimes and go to jail. even if it is very bad, they can at least find a place to shelter and food for a while.

It depends. Thee are prisons that the crooked politicians get sent to that are like resorts.

There is one in Danbury, Connecticut that has raquetball courts and a pool. There is a gourmet chef that prepares the meals. All your big time white collar crooks like Bernie Madoff end up there. I am sure thewr are other prisons like this too because we have so many crooks in politics,

then they go there for a vacation, not for punishment. Can you tell me who is corrupt so can you name him/her?

Based on all the prison documentaries and news stories, they are definitely shitty places. Especially for those wrongly convicted, many of the prison guards have become repugnant unsympathetic individuals just from working there.

However they are not the worst prisons, there are prisons in many other countries that are poorly run with numerous human rights abuses.

While I support stronger self defense rights, I also support reforming American prisons to be more like Norway’s prisons which are considered to be the most humane prisons in the world.

of course no. but at least prisons shouldn't be in such bad conditions. though staying in such prisons can be a good punishment for a person who has committed a crime. Maybe he/she will never commit a crime again.
