There is not a requirement to cut down forests to feed and house more people. It is an easier way but there are alternatives. Also, those billions of people already exist meaning they already cut down the forests and whatnot somewhere else to "pay" for them and if you take them in then the places they came from would be able to let the previous locations regrow and result in a net neutral action.

Also the whole jobs question is not a problem with automation but a problem with capitalism which means you will have to change capitalism to something else that functions with our modern day.
