It could be for some people. A holiday needn’t be expensive. I’ve went on expensive holidays and relatively cheaper ones - the important thing is that you make your time there worthwhile.

Even a road trip can be considered as going on a holiday, you know? You do not need to go to Italy or France to enjoy your vacation

Ultimately, it depends on the person’s income. If you’re poor and are planning on an expensive trip to France, it obviously is a waste of money and time or you can choose to go on a simple vacation with your friends/family or by yourself. If you’re decent or wealthy and have enough time on your hands, a holiday doesn’t sound so bad, be it cheap or expensive

I think vacation is an excellent thing to spend money on. In 2021 my husband and I went out west for 8 days. We rafted the Grand Canyon and then spent a few days living it up in Vegas.

Best money I have ever spent.

Vacation is only a bad thing to spend money on when you can't afford it.

I live in a touristic place (accidentally) - until Covid hit, I saw hordes of stupid people who mindlessly spent money (and life-time) on... well: shit!
Holidays - when they are ''done right'' will help us to refuel our life-energy; they may bring us experiences or opportunities to 'grow'.
Where: I don't think that ''distance from 'home' makes for ''good'' holidays.
It could be right around your own place as well.
