Why is the American general population considered "Stupid" when it comes to the world or other intellectual conversations?

I can understand that having a good intellectual conversation with an American is relatively hard because the Educational system in the USA is pretty much in the pits when you look at other Nations around the world. EU nations have far smarter students and even Jap and China have schools that promote the idea where the Strong survive. Where the USA has the idea "No child left behind". Means if you can get your grade 12 high school and not even have to work at it or try.

What's the problem in the USA why are the people there so dumb?

Not everybody in the US is unintelligent, but there are, unfortunately, quite a few. There are two prime reasons I could point to, in order to address the points in your question.

As far as US citizen's knowledge on the larger world; that is principally due to the American education system being very America-centric.

Part of this could be due to the fact that living in the US can feel as if we're very isolated from the rest of the world, due to our geographical size. There are many parts of Europe, for example, for you can drive several hours, and pass through two whole countries. People in the US can drive several hours, and still be in the same state. Part of it could also be due to pure old patriotic nonsense, too.

Our schools do teach about things out of the US, but unforunately, not in any great detail. There might be a paragraph, or two, in our textbooks concerning the Boer War, Mexican independence, or any number of other significant events from around the world.

However, there will be entire chapters devoted to the Civil War, or Manifest Destiny. As a result, American students will have their heads filled with 90% US history, and 10% of the history from the rest of the world. It's simply the way it's done, here. "Patriotism" and all that, I guess.

The other big part of the problem is education inequality. There are many parts of the country in which the school systems are well funded, and have more resources to spend on their students. This enables children to get a more high quality education.

Unfortunately, due to social, and economic, inequality, there are just as many areas of the country that are forced to make due with far less funding, far more students, far less resources, or any combination of the three. Consequently, the education of the individual students suffers, by comparison.

I don't know if that helps, or not, but as I said: not all Americans are as you suggest, and there are plenty of us that are, in fact, quite well educated, and know a lot about the world outside of our country. There are, likewise, many as you described, and there are at least some reasons why that is so.

Every country has it's fair share of fuckwits but they're kept in check. America seems to put them on show for the world to see. One thing I've noticed is the dumber Americans love to link themselves and their views to the flag. You never see your scientists waving it when they're making a statement but second some guy wants to rant the earth's flat he's waving it everywhere as if it somehow validated his claims.
Then there's your north south divide. When America itself considers the south to be a population of cousin humping, small minded, slack jaw yokels your not exactly selling yourself

Although I do detest the ''American way of life'' - I must admit that I found equal ''stupidity'' in many other cultures as well.
