Do you believe there are more stupid people, rather than intelligent ones?

I have noticed it seems like people lack common sense. Sure, people make mistakes. It's not uncommon to put a chicken in the oven and forget it's in there and have it burn on you... but then there are the ones who you know are just dumb... like for example, the ones who you get into a political discussion with and they support certain political figures, but to win the argument, they make up facts, rather than provide actual facts, and to be honest, people who do this only make themselves sound dumb. Obviously if I person doesn't know what they are talking about, they're going to sound stupid.

I'm a writer and I ALWAYS make sure that my facts are aceturate and truthful. People often forget when they're talking like morons in front of me, part of being a writer is having a good supply of knowledge. I'm not saying I'm intelligent, but you have to have a good amount of intelligence to be a decent writer. It comes with the territory.

I swear though, there are SO many stupid people out there. Maybe it's just me, but it seems like there are less intelligent people and more dumb ones. What do you think?

Oh, a writer eh? Well, let me just go over what you've written here, and count the mistakes.

The word "dumb" actually means an inability to speak, but of course, people now use the word in ways that don't make all that much sense. Another example of this abuse is the manner in which the word "literally" is now used, and the word "decimate" (which means to reduce by one tenth, not to almost wipe out or obliterate).

I see. Well, I know what it's like to be surrounded by morons, so I guess I can feel a bit of sympathy for you. It's hard, it really is.

This statement is ambiguous. By the expression "less intelligent", do you mean there are fewer people around who are intelligent, or do you mean the average intelligence level has dropped in recent years? I'm thinking you mean the former, in which case you'd have been better served by the word "fewer", rather than "less" (less is the word used when referring to a continuous quantity, ex. "there is less water in this glass").

hmm, it's just a thought. I wasn't going to reply to this. I'm not entirely sure if you're correcting me or if you're just overly opinionated. I appreciate the feedback either way. I don't normally correct people and forgive me this, but it wouldn't be my 'spelling' that's off. It would be my use of words. The word 'one tenth' you used should be "one-tenth". Always use a hyphen. The statement sounds 'ambiguous' but everyone else that replied understood just fine. There are a good number of words with multiple meanings. What I'm referring to when I say 'dumb' is "a stupid person", which is the informal version of the word, which is, in fact, in the dictionary. 'Inability to speak' is one of multiple different meanings.

I think you're confusing a writer with a published author. I've written a little over 200 books. I'll send you one of my novels, and you can give me some constructive criticism. Last year I started a book series. I've written four books in the series so far, and I'll publish when I'm ready. My series starts out with a young man who had trouble overcoming his fears and one afternoon he dies in a car accident, meets a spiritual guide who sends him back to earth to learn how to face fear. He returns to meet four other individuals who are were also sent back to earth, and they travel through time learning to face their fears. Some time periods they travel to, they experience the same struggles as others have in history.

There's aspiring writers and writers. I can't say I'm an aspiring writer because I've written many projects and finished them. An aspiring writer would be someone hoping to become a writer.
People underestimate the work and commitment that it takes to be a writer. Between the spell-checking, checking for grammatical errors, research, fact-checking, reading, and re-reading, it's time consuming. My writing here on GAG may seem deplorable, but it's not as if any of it is going into a novel.

Off the cuff I'd say yes, however I think it's more of an ignorance issue than a raw IQ issue. People are lazy, even though we all practically have a powerful phone with bluetooth and wifi in all of our pockets, it seems the gulf of factual information is wider than ever. With all the lies, propaganda, fake news and rhetoric, the things that people say make these seem like complete idiots.

Also people have a funny way of justifying their beliefs and ideas. People can be convinced of just about anything. After all there are quite a number of people who actually believe that the world is flat. While it seems comical, many of these people believe it or not are intelligent. One man's religion is another man's cult. It goes on and on...
