TBH I have vacillated on this topic my entire life. I've understood and respected the arguments from both sides, though if you hold a gun to my head an force me to pick a side it will (and always as been) the pro-choice. I suppose I'm 5/8 pro-choice and 3/8 pro-life.
But the pro-life part of me recognizes, and has problems with, the very arbitrary, unscientific and ever changing definitions pro-lifers use to demarcate between when and when not an abortion is acceptable.
To answer the original question... I doubt the ruling will affect my life. I am 61. Abortion is not on the horizon for my or my partner. I do have three children. I suppose I could be affected if one of them needs/wants an abortion and cannot have one.
I suspect I, personally, would be more affected by the politics of such a decision. How would this affect future Supreme Court nominations and therefore what type of SCOTUS will we have in the future. If RvW is dead, do conservatives demote their decades-long pro-life litmus test from the top to a lower echelon on their SCOTUS nominee selection process? (personally, I doubt it - but it isn't out of the realm of possibility)
Furthermore... how would it affect public discourse in the US? It is already at dangerously polarized levels. Would the polarization get even worse? What does 'worse' even mean, given the current baseline? It could (though I sincerely hope not) mean violent clashes among the two sides in various regions of the country. Once that level of violence starts, does it progress from sporadic protests that sometimes turn violent to something more chronic and dangerous? Do we enter a period of perhaps not outright civil war but rather of prolonged civil violence - along the lines of Ireland's decades of The Troubles?
These outcomes would surely affect all of us in the US, perhaps more so than the more narrow scope of the RvW decision.
I already said what I had to say about this. I'm so sick of this retarded pro-life argument BS. Not that Roe v Wade will likely be overturned. This is all one giant distraction from something bigger; possibly even Ukraine/Russia.
It will not affect me personally. My husband and I have no desire to be parents, but we have agreed that, should our contraception fail, we would keep the pregnancy/baby. That is our choice.
I am pro-choice because I believe that I have no say over what another woman chooses to do with her body. And until the fetus would be viable outside of the womb, that cluster of cells is still considered to be her body. I personally would not choose to abort but again, that's my decision.
Banning abortion will not decrease the amount of abortions that take place, it only increase the number of unsafe abortions and female mortality rates.
It won't affect me as even when I was raped and got pregnant, I didn't abort it then, instead was looking through dozens of prospective adoptive parents who were on the long waiting list to adopt a new born.
If I didn't want a baby, which I really didn't in that case as I was only 14, I would give it up for adoption.
I know those people on those lists will be looking forward to adoption having a shorter waiting list.
I will say I do think that the morning after pill should be offered to every rape victim though, up on the report of it.
id rather be aborted than live in this meaningless life, especially as a aborted child with no parents makes it even worse, having children is so cruel and selfish, abortion is the most human thing to do... in my honest opinion everyone should be aborted and life should cease to continue since its so meaningless and boring and pointless
@washMyBallz At least in the US, there is a long waiting list for, people waiting to adopt newborns. So a newborn is usually wanted. Last I checked it was over 2 years long.
Where I live, abortion is legal up until 20 weeks. I'm pro-choice for others and pro-life for myself. Not sure how this will affect me.
Also, the decision is left up to the states. Criminalizing abortion is STUPID. It will only do more harm than good. Illegal abortion centers run by medical wannabes is gonna go up.

My guess is the hard right activist judges leaked it early to give centrists as much time as possible to forget about it before November. They might also be planning to dial back their full overturn to take the wind out of the sails of any centrists that are motivated to vote against republicans, but still get what the far right wanted. The fact that right wing media is so energetically attacking the leak instead of celebrating the overturn they've spent the last four decades claiming to want tells me it's a planned and coordinated political operation between right wing media, right wing justices, and right wing politicians.

It looks like the Supreme Court is going to rule that the federal government overstepped its bounds in Roe v Wade (1973) that made bans on abortion illegal in the country, which means the decision to allow, restrict or ban abortions will go back to each individual state to decide. It won't mean the end of legal abortions. Based on the current makeup of the states, it's likely that at least half of the states will allow abortions, subject to reasonable restrictions.

Abortion is so far down my list of things that are effecting Americans it hardly registered. It is just a little bit more important than global warming. Inflation. border crisis, Covid, education, economy, even Ukraine is more important than this issue. This is not such a big deal. It will be up to the individual states and I do not think many states will want to adopt this policy.
Not in the short term. If the leak is valid it just pushes the decision to the states. There are midterms this year so it’s not like any state will take away the right to have an abortion until 2023 at the earliest.
