Lol, there is a difference between having a dark history, ahhem, hello slavery and killing of the Indians, and living in the dark ages now. Also, the US is a proper idiocracy, instead of democracy, and you are thaught that the land of the crazies is the greatest country on Earth. Lol
Most Americans hate their own country. Stop thinking we live in some 1950s John Wayne cowboy flick where we’re all taught to love God and country. We aren’t.
@Agagagagaga Yes, unfortunately this is what liberal propaganda does. But I think there are still a lot of patriotic, traditional Christian Americans. Get out of the big cities and you will see many of them.
@Ryfyle I live in the UK but I am not British. And yes, you are right. Most of the English are very similar to the Americans. Plenty of them think Britain is still the great power it was a 100 years ago, and common sense is quite rare. Luckily Scotland is very different from England in their mentality
Slavery and the Killing of the Indians? You want to hold this country hostage for what happened more than 100 years ago? Living in the Dark Ages? What the hell are you talking about? Do you have he benefit of a Forman Education? Spare us all, your kind of ignorant dogma.
@Ryfyle Do you know the definition of "Imperialism"? What Liberal Arts college did you attend? "A policy of extending a country's power and influence through diplomacy or military force" "Imperialist Briton" ? WTF Perhaps 300 years ago !
@Bricealan Your off by 80 years or so. The Common wealth states are still subservient to the crown. Glad to see your ass hurt and still don't know your geopolitics or history.
@Squaresquirrel You still benefit from a couple centuries of imperialism.
You probably don't know it, but we in germany and other european countries as well do deal with our history and criticize our own politics.
I guess you won't know about it, unless you speak, german/french/dutch/italian/Spanish/polish/... and all the other european languages and also follow the specific media from these countries.
Nah. He's American. He speaks only English. Likely doesn't know where half the European countries are located - what when an alarming number of Americans don't even know where Washington DC is or the capital of their state. And thinks Americas better because he knows jackshit beyond his little bubble.
The internet is an English invention, not American. In fact, most things we claim as ours like TV and engines originated from England before America even knew what it was
Out of all the times I visited my relatives in Europe, I don't think I've once heard anything about guns, health, or natives. Only people who hear and focus on that constantly are internet dwellers, who are the same in any country because they never go out only living in front of screens
What I do notice is some mainland Europeans hating the English, because some of them get too drunk and party too loud before going back to England. Personally I see us as the same because we're all white
Don’t let it get to you. The harsh critics that are ignorantly making fun of the people and ways of a whole country are mostly people on the internet who aren’t doing anything to improve any country. The intelligent Europeans may know that we aren’t perfect (like any country) but they won’t sit there and degrade a group of people. The average American doesn’t even act in the way that some of these people online say we act.
@Squaresquirrel I'm American and this made me laugh ha. When I travel I always feel like it's solely my job to make sure we don't all look like a stereotype. I had the best conversation with a tour guide once in Italy. He was friendly and seemed to take a liking to me and asked me a question about Americans who say they're Italian and I never laughed so hard because he was so confused and definitely a little insulted. I explained that it's definitely not supposed to be insulting but I get it. People are very proud of their grandparents roots and they tried so hard to keep the Italian roots strong here in America that we keep it close to us.. that said deep down we mean we're American with Italian heritage.. it's implied we're all American. All in all I shared with my Italian American family and friends to stop calling ourselves Italian. We're definitely not. This was around the Jersey shore era so honestly the Italians should've been mad. No one in Italy acted like those idiots lol
I liked the people I met in Europe (with the exception of London) I DID have words with some fat, bald headed Canadian, and asked him why he would verbally attack an individual because he was an American. HIs wife said she was ashamed of him for saying that.

Don't flatter yourself, bucko.
You are the the product of our social experiment. We keep you Muricans around for our use, not the other way around.
Your coffee flavoured water you try and pass off as "coffee" at Starbucks, may look equivalent to the real thing. But like your lineage and foods- it's all artificial.
"Why do they criticize us?" Says the man who embodies the exact reason they criticize us.
Anyone who calls this "the greatest country on earth" is generally making it... not that.
Humility and self-criticism are how a country improves. Callous assertion if dominance is how a country stagnates, resting on it's laurels while other countries pass it by.
the rest of the world is collapsing while america eats up all the world's factory jobs, they invest in america as their homelands fall apart, and all our adversaries are running out of food and energy.
yes, america is only beginning it's rise. and assertions of dominance are important to raise the moral of the empire's citizens
"the empire" "America will continue to rise" and then the general imperial-isolationist vibe of your comment.
You don't grow a child with character if you tell them they are "the best person in the world", and demand that teachers agree. That's how you raise a spoiled brat.
You raise them interacting with the rest of the world, building relationships, seeing their flaws, admitting when they're wrong, and seeking growth.
If that's not your style with regards to America, it probably isn't actual growth you're looking for.
I say all of those things and I’m American. America has such a racist past that it’s not even funny. Still today it feels like we are going backwards in time. Mass shootings are created from racist hate. We are the most racist country in the world. If all of those things offend you, good. I hope it makes you want to do something to change it. Not complain on social media and point fingers at other countries. They have nothing to do with it.
@bean2k21 reality check, you’re heritage is European because you’re white. Every time you insult Europeans is like the pot calling the kettle black. Lol
There's good thoughts of america too. But good things are rarely expressed and it's in our nature to focus on the bad. It's not as bad as it seems. Welcome to the Internet, world of misrepresentarion.
And yet everyone has a bad past. And we may build of our ancestors corpses but we don't inherit blame nor guilt. It's not genetic..
It's not so much the ''dark past'' - it's having a dark FUTURE :D ''Super Power": Rome had been that once as well :D ( and they STILL got beaten up by my (own) 'Barbarian' ancestors) :D I don't criticize the U. S. - I pity them for not having an OWN and LASTING culture :D ... with glee :D Happy Sunday, mates :D
I think they’re just joking around when they say those things we same way we crack jokes about British people’s teeth and their affinity for tea and crumpets. Nothing worth taking super personally. Also I’ve spent my whole life in America and statistically, this country is far from amazing compared to others. I think you could afford to do some more research on that part…
"Far from amazing compared to others"? The Americans left thousands of our people buried at Normandy. I went there to see where Americans were slaughtered by the thousands and turned the water red with their blood, to liberate France from Germany. Our people have died by the thousands to let others live free. Italy, Poland, France, and the list goes on. Where do you, at twenty-one get off by making that kind of ignorant statement. THE REST OF THIS DAMNED PLANET IS HERE now because of the hell hole they moved FROM! God help us!
@Bricealan What do you say to the millions of indigenous people, African Americans, and other minority groups slaughtered by the hands of American imperialism and slavery? We had slavery for 200 years after other countries figured out it was inhumane. To this day, we’ve done hardly nothing to repay those debts. That’s not to speak for the heinous political destabilization we’ve committed abroad either. Yeah we protected Normandy, but we also nuked Japanese civilians twice, worsened conflict in the Middle East, took over nearby countries in Latin America to not even make them states. Explain to me how America fights for freedom and democracy when Guam can’t even vote in our elections yet. Get off your high horse, seriously. I’m 21, but at least I’m not blind.
Because they are assholes but have what they consider a fancier and old world way of expressing their hate and criticism towards the USA. Let them eat shit... Oh yeah and cake too 😂
Possumpi26 - reading your post, I almost wet my pants!!! LOLOL. Hey 'possumpi26 Didn't Antoinette, say when she was told 'the people have no bread" --- "Well fuck 'm let them eat shit, and then cake!!" This guy's post has really stirred up a real shit storm. I love your opinion, AND your sense of humor. Bruce
If you know history, Europe was BUILT on BARBARIC behavior. How any hill jack in Europe could make such a statement is beyond any common sense. The French had the Bastille, the British and the Catholic committed so much slaughter in the name of the church it defies any sense of reason. The Church persecuted hundreds, maybe thousands of innocents. I wonder if they still burn witches there? All you have to know is the history of those imbecilic blow offs
You bank rolled nazi Germany and we mostly sold our slaves to you.
Also most of the awful shit that Europeans did happened ages ago, most of the awful things you have done was in the last 100 years and you are literally still doing it all at this very moment.
The problem that you have, the reason you are so emotionally affected when people critise the US is because you are a nationalist, you have enmeshed your ego with ideas of national identity and so you are now incapable of viewing your nation in any meaningful or rational way, because to see fault with it would be to find fault with yourself and your ego won't allow you to do that.
Maybe you can't even understand that but rest assured it is obvious to everyone else.
Unfortunately it happens with both personal and political viewpoints. It’s easier to point out other’s shortcomings/issues/problems vs reflect on their own personal or political issues. Also (and generally speaking), they don’t consider the other person’s or countries viewpoints before providing their negative input/comments.
Because it’s normal for people to have an opinion on stuff happening elsewhere?
It may come as a surprise, but nobody really gives a fuck about what monarchs did 150 years ago. It doesn’t mean people will feel so ashamed they will not give an opinion on something happening esewhere
europeans have lived in peace too long (a peace we provided to them). it is easy to become idealistic when you go too long without war. idealists are unrealists and are thus insufferable assholes
Europe is being flooded with muslims that will soon kill them, they have such a low birth rate they will be devoured by poverty as all socail welfare programs can't be sustained without new taxpayers. they're dead walking and just don't know it yet.
It's all true - for America and for lots of Europe, and Asia, and China, etc. Why are you getting "tired" of it? The USA is great in many ways, and has totally fucking sucked in very many ways as well. You're not "unAmerican" because you know America's history and recognize some of the shit we've done. You have to deal with the good and the crap, and accept that we've done a lot of fucked up shit to a lot of people.
We are aware of our dark pasts. However the US seems to have a backward thinking approach to a lot of things
Take the universal health care example. Why should someone who doesn't earn enough for better health insurance be denied health care simply due to lack of funds
Or the big one. The 2nd amendment which gives you the right to bare arms, which country has the highest gun crime stat? ... hmmm; maybe it's time to implement gun control
It's just funny how the US is highly developed and rich yet has all these shit stains on it. Like expensive healthcare, abortion laws, millions living in poverty and homeless. So many internal issues and then they go out in summits acting like they're the best. They're not.
Because America has morals. Europe murders babies, Has sex with 12 year old kids, allows Islamic morons to sexually assault females , then blames the females.
I'm not going to start a debate with you on abortion but what do you mean having sex with 12 year olds? Rape happens everywhere and no one is blaming the female.
If only America stop meddling into other countries' domestic affairs, elections et. indirectly supporting or even funding coup d'états and acting like the world's "peacemaker"
