What would make someone go out their way to find someone or check in at a hotel to stalk someone?

This person is a threat to me and my child, we’re not exes but strangers instead. I was placed at an undisclosed location for safety. I spotted a car that’s the same exact model as this loser at the undisclosed location and police are checking the cameras to confirm if it’s that loser or not. There’s a person above me in the next room up whose always banging stuff loudly and I’m convinced it’s him and he checked in under a different name. Not sure if that’s possible. But either way what would someone motive be? If he’s not checked in and was still on the premises was his motive to kill me? He’s currently facing eviction when we go to court, he’s a very psychopathic neighbor.
