We discussed something in Federal Government, about Gen Z. Apparently we are less likely to vote, which is a bit true.
Do you vote? If so, why? Both sides are toxic af (democrats and republicans). 🤣🤣🤣
I do indeed vote. One because a lot of Americans fought and died so we can have free elections and two because I feel that not voting is a waste. Like I kinda live here, I want a say in who's gonna be in charge lol
See, part of the problem is that most people vote for who they think is gonna win and not who they want to win.
And there are 3rd party candidates. (Who I usually go for) and if more people voted strictly for who they believed is the best choice, and not "just to keep the other guy from winning" things might be better
I have never voted because I don't agree with either side. Politics should be about policy, not party. They should be working together and compromising, not fighting to keep the people divided.

I vote if there's a candidate worth voting for, like they have even one policy I agree with, and not a greater number I strongly disagree with. I voted for W, Obama, and Trump, they all had something to offer me. One was higher pay when I was in the military, W, the other was insurance for pre-existing, Obama, and last was seeing how far he could go, and really wanting to see America great (again or not, I don't know, my adulthood was the. com crash), Trump.
He couldn't get anything done though, lots of people want him re-elected, but he'll still be cockblocked into a corner like a eunuch at an orgy. That loses my vote.
Yeah.
But then again, I don't live in the US.
I think it's still important to vote. It's also important to revolt when voting no longer has an impact.
It's important as a citizen to understand your rights and responsibilites as a voter. It's also important to understand and acknowledge the limitations the existing system has.
I don't know why but it feels like a lot of Americans have just disengaged with their political system. Which is empowering in one way, but also dangerous in another.
Having a healthy skepticism is different from avoiding and ignoring, but then having no idea why your laws and government aren't working.
It is hard to see the impact an individual voter - or even most of the collective of voters (as seen in 2014) - but it's vital to at least understand the system and the role it plays.
It's okay to hate engaging in civic duties. It's ok to actively oppose them.
But hiding heads in sand and pretending it doesn't exist... Is gonna land you in a bad place to live.
What makes a country isn't its politicians. It's its people. But if the people don't want to put in the effort or work to make themselves heard, then it's up to the highest bidder on those politicians.
Track record ain't looking so hot for that.
Voting in America doesn't matter or do anything because of legalized bribery aka lobbying from all of our giant corporate overlords
Absolutely agreed.
I have never voted and will not until my vote counts. This is really going to sound like I am a Trumper but I am NOT! I dont like ANY politician! BUT he was right on a lot of things. Votes are stolen in many ways. First outright stolen, lost or manipulated ballots. Then more realistic is our electoral system and its mapping being constantly manipulated. Then we are told who we can choose from! Then donations in the millions are given to these candidates to persuade them to remember them once in office! America needs massive change! Lets start by voting like India all on the same day in person at the police station using a inked thumbprint in the box of who you are voting for! The ink stains your thumb preventing you from voting again.
you're right and I agree... and I have never voted either
neither party has ever represented me and in more recent years it is worse, they have just become incredibly toxic and all they will BOTH do is "vote for us because the other side are shit" well yes, both sides are full of it...
Yes. First of all, Democracies can't really work if people dont vote so its just good that as many people as possible vote even if they do not want to or have any good options to pick from. But more importantly for me is that I live under a fairly simple personal rule. If you do not vote you do not get to complain.. and I reaaaaally love to keep strong opinions on politics and stuff.
But yeah, part of why politics in USA is such a pile of absolute cancer is because a significant part of the country do not vote. Granted, not all the problems can be resolved by voting more but it would definitely be less of a dumpster on fire.
Here in Belgium the situation differs from the US. Here voting is a legal duty, although that's not why I indeed do vote. Not voting is leaving space to people with often bad intentions. Not voting or voting blank adds voices to the majority. Sure enough we have far more choice than people in the US, where people seem to believe that the world is divided into democrats and republicans... We have a wide choice of different parties, from extreme left to extreme right, with every variety in between ;0)
I did once. Just because mom wouldn't stfu. But now... well I got better things to do than sit in a line just to vote who will be the president. Either way, if ain't obama, it's the same thing as last. Someone fks up this, we blame them, they deny it and try to fix it, and time to go. Or like trump... nothing is going right. :)
no i don't. because if you vote that means you will accept the consequences of you taking part in a system where "what you didn't want" could be the result. i don't accept that system. people make all sorts of bullshit gaslighting arguments on why you should vote. but i studied social science, political science and social psychology. so i know why they do that.
last time i checked the government or the presidents never ask our opinion or what we want when they do something like bail out all the large companies. Also we are always given shitty people to vote for and they say the are opposite parties like democrat and republican but they all act the same and lie and go back on their words. So as far as i am concerned both parties are radical right wings that cater to the wishes of big businesses
But no i do not vote and i am also not gen z and i honestly dont blame them for not voting the whole thing is a scam
It's mandatory here which I think is good (you can still decide to not give your vote to anyone but you have to go).
You can decide to not vote but all it means it's that you indirectly vote for every party instead of giving your vote to the one you like the most (or hate the least)
Luxembourg? It's mandatory to go the polling station? That's rather commie isn't it?
I stop voting once I learned that Democrats and Republicans are really the same group. Its all a distraction. Plus they control the elections so an independent could never win the president seat.
I do not vote and here is why.
The choices are either a pile of Horse manure or Bull manure.
No matter which you choose you end up with a pile of shit.
If voting made a difference, our masters would outlaw it.
I vote but democrats and republicans are equally toxic. I throw my vote to independent or third party candidates in my own little personal protest.
That's because they both serve corporation and lie through their fucking teeth. Democrats are not Left they are centrist leaning towards the Right. As far as I am concerned both Democrats and Republicans are far right leaning extremist. We need to bring back the Socialist party that abolished child labor and gave us Unions and reduced our working hours from 12-16 hours a day 6 days a week to 8 hours a day and the weekend two days off
When you're given nothing but trash selections there's not really a point in voting. Maybe if Theodore Roosevelt came back to life and ran for office I'd totally elect him.
Yes I vote. At least voting for the lesser of two evils can help
Voting between the lesser of two evils will guarantee things will progressively get worse only a little bit slower and it signals to them that we are ok with it because we have them out support. It's like someone walks up to you and asks you do you want the knife to go in all the way or halfway inside you and you say halfway because it's the lesser of two evils lmfao 😂 a sane person would say get the fuck away from me! And defend themselves
*because they have our support
@vald9inches not necessarily. If you vote for the more progressive person. they will make more progressive policy changes. If you continue to vote progressive. Things will continue to change. Not at the ideal pace and definitely not without fight but it happens.
Not voting however, gets you nothing. It's not like the entire country isn't going to vote. Not voting basically guarantees the worst party is going to get in.
@Smashingdoozy So you dont want to vote for the lesser evil candidate you want to vote for a good candidate is what you mean to say by progressive. Because what "progressive" is depends on where you stand or what class you belong to. Voting for the lesser evil as i showed in my analogy is not a good idea.
@Smashingdoozy but i can definitely appreciate your intentions and commitment to making the world a better place for all people but it won't happen by choosing a lesser evil. Never compromise when there is injustice! I love this quote from Malcolm X so much that describes it perfectly!
@vald9inches two things can coexist. No candidate is as progressive as I like but some do have progressive ideas.
@Smashingdoozy ok give me an example of a progressive candidate you voted for that made a lasting difference in our life.
@vald9inches well that's incredibly subjective. What you think is a difference and what I think are very different things.
@Smashingdoozy oh i think we a lot more in common than you think and ultimately want the same thing. for one we are both human beings that dont want to suffer or be oppressed and want to live our life as free as possible without hurting another fellow human being. We value our life and the life of others and all life in general.
@vald9inches there's honestly not a lot currently. Other than undoing trump's crap. (bare in mind I've literally voted once). But I can't imagine how much worse off we would be especially through the pandemic had trump got in again.
@Smashingdoozy trust me i used to have faith in the US political system and but as a 7 year old immigrant i have seen a lot of presidents come and go all the way back to George H. W. Bush and then Bill Clinton stepping in after him and all this time i have seen this country get worse and worse and WORSE! It didn't matter what they said they were going to do or what they are going to fix they only went back on their word and broke their promises and the country became worse and worse for normal people like you and me. But the US definitely became a lot better for big corporations i can tell you that! I get it you are young and haven't lived as long as i have yet and you still trust authority and the system as i did too once! I thought there is no way people in power or leaders in america could ever betray the people they swore to serve and protect but sadly it couldnt be farther from the truth. The system is so rotten to the core you have no idea...
@vald9inches I honestly don't believe in the system. I have hope for changes sure. But I don't trust authorities
@Smashingdoozy then why vote? the whole thing is a scam meant to rob you of your time and keep you distracted from the real issues while you argue with other people who are also distracted about which of the lesser evil should fuck us over lol. If we really want to change the world we can't play by the rules they made we have to make our own game and our own rules and stop playing their game. Only then can we make significant change in the world because i can promise you every one of those politicians are getting millions of dollars from big corporations to keep the money flowing to them. Who do you think those politicians will be loyal to? Definitely not us! lol We will keep fighting for our rights for all of eternity as they repeal them for one reason or a fucking another and keep us distracted while they fuck us over for every penny we have
@vald9inches because like I said, not voting is worse than voting for the shittiest person. I'd rather vote for a half evil villain president/governor than a fully evil one. Yah know.
But you are perpetuating the system that way
Also let say the perfect progressive candidate you like comes along and you vote for him and they win. After they get into office they are not obligated to keep any of the promises they made to you or make any of the changes they said they were going to do.
@vald9inches I know. But you can't complain about the government if you didn't vote or at least try vote in a way that would benefit you. It's unfortunate that this is the system we live in but it is what it is.
Totally agree. im sure there were folks in the weimar republic who didn't bother voting when the nazi's were up for their election... yet when they ultimately won they still faced the consequences of those nazi's anyways.
@Still-alive Between Adolf Hitler and Mao Zedong who would you vote for?
@Smashingdoozy you obviously see the system doesn't work but for some reason that is beyond me you still believe in the system? I honestly can't comprehend this contradiction its like you have lots all hope and have accepted your fate. You are acting like as if you know you are in a abusive relationship and yet you still stay with them. Don't accept the way the system is or the way life is and just change it!
Yes I do. You can’t complain when changes hurt you if you didn’t vote. Though I will admit, voting for the lesser of two shit sandwiches doesn’t really help matters.
Yes, and I encourage my constituents to vote.
Voting used to be mandatory in my country - be it for me, it would be again.
Why? What’s the point. No one is going to have interest of the American people at heart
I vote in primary and regular elections. Why? It's my civic duty and if I don't vote, I have no right to complain about what candidates got elected.
