All of us have been on the road when some moron does something not only incredibly stupid but also super dangerous, only to wonder why cops don’t bust them. If you live in Washington state there’s a good explanation: police are almost powerless to stop criminals as they run away. Many suspects fleeing from law enforcement are behind the wheel of stolen cars, so running the tags won’t lead to a capture

Starting in January of 2022, Washington State Patrol says over 900 drivers have just plain not pulled over when troopers tried to stop them. Thanks to new laws passed by the state’s legislature in the wake of cries for defunding the police and scaling back their powers, criminals are taking advantage and ignoring law enforcement. What’s better, the situation is almost guaranteed to get worse.

Since many of the fleeing drivers are in stolen cars, this is making getting away with car theft even easier. In other words, the list of unintended consequences is growing as one problem feeds another. Who could have ever predicted such a thing?
“Something's changed. People are not stopping right now,” said Sgt. Darren Wright, a Washington State Patrol spokesperson. “It's happening three to five times a shift on some nights and then a couple times a week on day shift.”

Even more infuriating, these criminals know exactly what they’re doing. Steve Strachan, executive director of the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs, cited a suspect driving on a suspended license who was being pursued by officers in Redmond. The guy called 911 and told the dispatcher they had to call off the chase because of House Bill 1054. He refused to stop, believing the law was on his side.

There has been an attempt to alter the law, but it fell apart in the state legislature last year. Opponents have cited racial equity, fatalities in pursuits, and police abuse as some of the reasons for keeping the restrictions on law enforcement

Yes and they are getting away with it. Some of this is policy in how to manage the disparity of resource allocation in society... between those who succeeded in the system and those who have fallen or rejected it. Note that the education system will fail people and "it" doesn't care, but it's primarily a parental and resource and culture issue.

Without discipline, people become animals again and those groups are polluting and dragging everyone down with them, have been for a while. This is how revolutions grow. I grew up with kids that would love to be kids today, steal with no consequence. One kid in Jr high explained to me how his brother taught him to pick pocks, demonstrated his skill (s). He's long since dead as was most of my HS class. A herd of hopeless and aimless gangsters. So... it's been going on a while, but they have more freedom now that there is fear in enforcement.

There are many tactical and strategic solutions, godly and otherwise, but they get to be difficult to implement... whose gonna sacrifice themselves? That's the solution. Something... has to be sacrificed.

currently, the good working people are being culled by the "bad"people... it's socialized slow loss control management.

Millions of people predicted it. Well, it *IS* Washington after all. That's been the land of wackos for several decades. The thing is, the people who live there are actually proud of it. Go figure.

Oh well. They are way up in the corner and out of the way of normal people. I can ignore them. Of course there is always Washington Junior (Oregon).

Maybe we can give the Pacific Northwest back to Russia. We can tell them it's Donbas and maybe they'll level it.

Lol, cops aren't under any legal jurisdiction to do their jobs. If you can outrun them long enough for shift change and it's a minor or paperwork-heavy crime, you can more or less count on police negligence.

There's still the risk the cops will just plain out shoot or plant evidence on you to try to meet easy quotas, but there's that risk just driving down the street if you're not white.

And if you ARE white, it's a free pass! Act innocent, play the "I didn't know" card or the "can't we just let it slide" smile and you're probably off scotfree.

Also, some of the world's most prominent criminals aren't just celebrated in the US, they're making your laws!

Of course criminals think they can get away with anything. Especially if they're white, male and Republican, they're practically untouchable by law.

Laws and regulations only stop people that are willing to fallow them. Not everyone is going to do so. So crime of every sort is always going to be an issue no matter what laws or regulations are put in place to prevent it. The legal system and police in a general sense are there minimize the negative impact of those who will not fallow a given law or regulation.

Once you start relaxing laws, de-powering the legal system and police forces it does embolden people that would be fallowing laws and regulations otherwise. It also makes people already breaking laws to do so even more. Simply because it emboldens them further. Due to them being more likely to get away with it.

The sad thing is that sometimes it takes a seriously negative experience for people to accept the harsh aspects of reality. So it might take elements of the illegal drug trade gaining a serious foot hold in the suburbs before people stop screaming defund the police or relax laws.

All credit is given to Mikhail Gorbachev for taking down the Soviet Union. He celtainly deserves much of it, but it was Boris Yeltsin who took the communism out of Russia, and set the stage for the country to become something better.

Yeltsin, who was what happens when a Boston Irish city councilman is somehow xorn in Russia, knew that communism didn't work, and never can. The only problew was tdat he forget to replace it with something else. Consequently, Putin.

What we see with this "defund the police" nonsense is much the same, except you're not removung them from positions of power, just crippling their ability to do their jobs and expecting them to do better. The modern Democratic policy slate is the best Republican party recruitment tool I've ever seen.

Places where police departments get defunded will only cause law abiding citizens to move and business owners will close down where the cities and communities will turn into the slums with higher crime rates and those who can't afford to move will suffer the most
