Why are people misunderstanding why we have guns in the United States?

The reason why we have guns in United States is to protect ourselves from foreign and domestic intruders and tyrants. Domestic intruders usually involve rapists thieves and people who want to do us harm. China and Russia are not likely going to invade the United States unless they have a death wish.

The point of the second amendment is because we don’t trust government government can easily turn tyrannical this is why the founders would have honestly never set up a government if they didn’t believe that men needed government to survive banana tyrannical one the point of guns is to kill the government

True, but let us clarify a bit. Lets focus on the word Tyrants.
If you look at the documents containing the laws that allow the right to bare arms you will see why we have them.
The Declaration of Independence stats part of that reason. The introductory sentence states the Declaration’s main purpose, to explain the colonists’ right to revolution.

"That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers FROM the CONSENT of the GOVERNED, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes DESTRUCTIVE of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to ABOLISH it, and to institute new Government"

And I highly recommend reading the rest of it. It references the shirking the yoke of the oppressive British government. So this right to bare arms and abolish governments is clearly not exclusive to "Hunting" as some want you to think. OR home protection. But certainly can include that.

The first 1 amendment of the Constitution has been trampled these past 2 years. Freedom of speech, Freedom of Press, and the right to bare grievance against the government, as well as protest. The second amendment is now on the chopping block.

What do you think will happen if they arbitrarily ignore the second amendment and try to enforce removing of this right. I grantee you it will not be peaceful. This country will split into a civil war and a revolt.

I do not have arms, do not want to have arms. But it is clear that this law is granted exclusive protection and specifically forbids the government to interfere with possession of arms. So if the government tries to do this, just as the DoI states they have the right to revolt. I certainly hope this does not happen.

Ok and how are we to defend our selfs? Say a rapist entered my home and attacked my wife and I to let her be raped? I’m not a except in hand to hand combat am I suppose to fight and intrude who might be bigger then me! Might have a knife or he might have a gun himself because criminals don’t care about they law he wouldn’t have broken into my house and tried to rape my wife in the first place. Guns are 100% from self defense now only from invaders like if Russia attacked the United States but home intruders and yes the federal government If ever comes down to that. Biden comes out and says you need F15s and MOAB bombs misses and rocket that they would use against the American citizen if we ever tried taking down the government just makes the case from private citizens to have F15s and MOAB to be in the hands of private citizens not to take away guns form private citizens

I live in a third world country. We have communist rebels, we have wannabe-Isis, we have other muslim extremists, we have politicians who are warlords, we have cartel-wannabes... Heck, we have street gangs.
We also have traffic, which slows any emergency response team.

And to add icing to the cake, at least 40% of the police are corrupt.

We don't arm civilians with guns.

You got competent police force - especially in terms of technology. You got competent military (sans discipline but hey). Use them.

And yes, you can defend yourselves with knives, bats, other blunt objects - IF THOSE INTRUDERS CAN'T BUY GUNS TOO, can't you?
Oh and before you say getting the guns from black market - think. Black market prices are waaaaaay too expensive for those lowly persons. Black market does not make it accessible to even common persons. And those who can afford it, probably aren't the rapists that specifically target your house.

The US military is the most powerful in history, no one can challenge it. China, Russia and Britain aren't going to be put off by a bunch of rednecks with AR15s nor is the US government.
If a foreign military invaded or the federal government got tyrannical there's less you "well regulated milita" types could do just like there was nothing the taliban or iraqi insurgency could really do against the US military.

The Vietnamese kicked US arse with little more than a militia, although, to be fair, the US military was not allowed to fight to win.
As one who one held a commission in the Australian Army, I can attest to the effectiveness of the Taliban et al. Again, to be fair, the USA and its allies were not allowed to fight to win.

We also gained our Independence by defeating the most powerful nation on earth at the time. The 2nd amendment was designed to stop the federal government from repeating what the British did to there colonies.

Also the idea of a well regulate militia was so that people would get together and practice and after they practice the men would take there guns home with them. There were also many cannons in the hands of private citizens most of the civil war’s cannons where owned by private citizens.

We also did stop the Taliban unfortunately we elected A president that handed the country back to dictatorial regime because the war in Afghanistan was unpopular we were down to 2500 troops and those 2500 troops were protecting the Afghan people from the Taliban Taliban really wasn’t a problem until Joe Biden decided to hand the country over to them

@cth96190 the US military was not kicked out of Vietnam nor did they invade it. They just weren't prepared to stay for 50 years to secure it. Overall it was a strategic victory where trillions of Russian & Chinese resources were committed to victory in South Vietnam, resources that were not used elsewhere to spread communism. Also at the time there was discussions in the US about the need for US military bases in Japan, Australia, the Philippines and so on as well as in these host countries with the war in Vietnam that talk was silenced.
The Taliban largely retreated out of Afghanistan for nearly 20 years, every so often they came back to test the water and their capabilities. The taliban are decent soldiers with a lot of them being sent for military service in foreign Muslim countries like Turkey, Pakistan, Egypt and even receiving military training from the US military when the joined the Afghanistan national army but they were never going to be able to fight in open battle or any kind of a fire fight once the usaf drone see you it's game over.
As for admiral yamato I think he was talking about the US government's potential ability at the time to mobilise, arm and train armies based on how over 20 years b4 the US entered ww2 in ww1 the US quickly armed and trained 4 million soldiers in the space of a year or more. In China the Japanese encountered a rifle behind every blade of grass as did the Germans in Russia but it didn't matter to a well trained military force.
The notion of a citizens with AR15s being able to be anything more than target practice to the likes of drones, apaches, tanks, artillery is a complete fantasy espicially if that enemy doesn't care about civilian casualties, collateral damage and bad media PR.

@Stoner710 the war in Vietnam wasn't about independence it was a proxy war to unite all of Vietnam under the banner of communism, the south didn't want to be communist. The French held Vietnam for some time but after ww2 they were too weak to do so, the Vietnamese were well trained and armed by this stage having fought the Japanese. America was refusing to support French colonialism, the Chinese and Soviets were supporting the Vietnamese and the French people no longer supported this colonialism. After Vietnam was divided between the communists in the North and democracy in the south. The US tried to support this democracy in the south but they turn out to be right wing fascists that undermined us efforts in holding south Vietnam. When the US left the vietcong were largely broken, ARVN forces were left well armed but they were too dependent on the US military and the corruption ate away at the county, when the oil crisis happened funding for ARVN was cut and the NVA launched a full scale attack on ARVN. Something similar happened in Afghanistan.
Technically the French defeated the British during America's war of independence.

A standard m4/16 would be better than the mikitia bring whatever they want, I don't think people should be allowed to take howitzer home, I mean in colonial times it made sense.
As for Afghanistan, nato spent 20 years there trying to build up the Afghan national army to fight off the taliban, built schools, wells, roads, hospitals you name it but ultimately the will was never there and they seem to want America out and the taliban in. Muslims have a thing about non-Muslim armies in Muslim countries. Compare how easily the taliban took back Afghanistan to how hard the Ukrainians are fighting Russia. Big difference.
