Food diversity here is second to none.

I've had food from several African countries, several South American countries, several European countries, some North American Classics, an Indingenous American tribes, several Middle Eastern countries, several Asian countries (down to the region), and several Central American countries (Mexican food has also gotten down to the region).

All of these restaurants are within the same region, so I don't have to drive insane distances to experience any of them at a whim, and most of them are can be found in one city. All of them are delicious, and all of them have chefs from those nations, and at times, regions.

I'm not into getting doxed, so I'm going to say where I live.

This factor was the tie breaker when I was deciding to learn abroad. I decided to eat food from a different country for lunch and dinner until I experienced them all. After the first week, 7 straight days, and still not being finished, my mind was blown. And I loved everything I tried.

I love having options.

I know this first hand being from the middle east and i can tell you middle eastern food in the US is some watered down shit of the original. To get the real stuff you would have to personally know people from different countries and go to their home to eat the authentic stuff!

Many of the restaurants I visited were recommended by people native to those countries and regions, and many of them are relatively famous, with very high ratings. I also usually ate at the restaurant with those people, and they generally ordered for me.

I have only eaten at a few Middle Eastern North African restaurants, one of them being a chain, but I didn't go there for a multi-course dinner, just a quick bite on while on the move:
Halal Boys (the chain I tried), I've tried their fish, lamb, chicken, and beef over rice and in gyros (I loved their gyros);
an Iraqi restaurant run by a family that had arrived from Iraq, and their food was slamming;
and a Palestinian restaurant that has been around for a long time, I was brought there by a Palestinian, their restaurant was almost exclusively filled with Palestinians, and the food was great.

Maybe you live in or have visited places that are not so great concerning world class cuisine, or you were unfortunate enough to visit soon to be closed restaurants.

Where I am, the competition is insanely stiff, and if a restaurant is not great, it's gone in a month or less. It doesn't matter if it is the only restaurant from a particular country, the competition is world class just one door down on either side.

So I'd advise you to get around a little more, maybe visit coastal areas that are known for their restaurants, maybe make friends in those areas that can tell you where to get their people's food.

There are bad restaurants in every country and city around the globe, the point I had is that no other country can produce both a high culinary standard, along with the level of diversity that we can.
I understand that not every city, county, or even state can produce this phenomena, but it does occur in some places within the U. S., and this is a phenomena that you will not find anywhere else at all.
The closest I've experienced was London, but that's not even close. There's no real South American cuisine scene, at least not like in the U. S.

I live in wonderful places that are within that nexus, like a Venn diagram for competition and cultural diversity. Not every restaurant that exists is great, but I can have Michelin Star sushi, 4 kinds of Michelin star Chinese food, many kinds of authentic high quality Mexican food that only locals know about, Pho praised by the local Vietnamese community, extremely highly rated Peruvian food, highly rated authentic Irish dishes, highly rated Ethiopian food, locally praised Jamaican food that has referrals from the Jamaican community, Michelin Star Italian restaurants, Michelin Star French restaurants, etc, etc. And I can have it all within 30 minutes, 45 tops.

You're just not going to find this occurring even once anywhere else, at least not with this level of diversity. There are some cities in the U. S. that have a ton of amazing hole in the wall restaurants from every culture. The quality and diversity can be amazing. No other country even has the opportunity to produce this kind of reality.

@vald9inches as a former chef, and world traveler, I will tell you that the flavor and quality of the food comes from the flavor and quality of the ingredients. Depending on where you live and source your foods, in the USA it can go from amazing to depressing. I remember distinctly a particularly sad pomegranate in Maine, selling for an arm and a leg. I would pick pomegranates 4 times the size, healthy and luscious, for free in my grandmother's backyard. Many third world countries have third rate ingredients available. Some local items can be amazing, but living in a first world nation that gets fresh imports from all over is my preference. Especially where I am in California where we also have an abundance of delicious fresh, top notch agricultural products.

One of which was a nicer restaurant and she was friends with a chef who kept sending us out delicious things from the kitchen "on the house", even off-menu stuff he just had and thought "oh those kids will enjoy this".

There was another BBQ place she took us (me and another sister) that I will never forget. Just fantastic food everywhere we went.

@vald9inches Not only is this 100% true when it comes to preparations, but the taste of many foods produced in the USA is very inferior to other countries, so let's start with that.
There are many reasons for this:
* Mass production vs smaller, local farms
* Chemicals and preservatives used, many required by law
* Diet fed to animals
* Conditions the animals are raised in
* For vegetables, depleted soil conditions
* Distances food has to be shipped and therefore is picked before it's ripened.

All of these contribute to taste. If you've lived on non-locally produced foods or processed foods all your life, you may never know any different. If you haven't tasted foods that are truly "farm to table" from smaller, non-chemical using producers, you don't know what you're missing.

The biggest difference I notice when traveling is in cured meats. Italy, France, Germany, Portugal, Spain - the meats taste amazing. You can make a sandwich with two thin slices of meat from these countries, no matter what the product, and it's got more flavor and tastes better than anything from Boar's Head, or any "top" producer in the USA. You need almost a third of pound on your sandwich just to feel as satisfied.

Fruits and vegetables taste very different too. I believe it's all to do with local and smaller production, and more "organic" (in Europe it's called 'biological') procedures. In the USA, you pay a ton more for "humanely raised" meats or "free range chickens" and "free range eggs". In Italy for example, once you're out of the major cities, it's ALL produced that way and that's what you get. In Portugal, I had fresh baked rolls and bread DELIVERED to my door for less than $1 a day, and it tasted great!

Coming back to the USA after travelling is a feeling like "it's good to be home and see friends, family, and do the activities I like, but man, I'm gonna miss food that tastes fantastic no matter WHAT I eat!

They’re legally required to have a free health and dental checkup at least once a year. Healthcare is free.

I simply don't accept there is anything that can be done to control such corruption while the power exist in such a distantly obscure place of such limited accountability and control.

We have already made laws banning such hiring and conflict of interest in other areas. It doesn't make a difference because the underlining source of the corruption is as explained the unaccountable nature of the government that wielding the power as well as frankly the power's complex nature itself.

For your information competing companies routinely trade CEOs and other high level staff. Non-competes are illegal in many states like Texas.
As long as they are personally divested of said interest the businesses frequently tend not to recognize the conflict of interest. Many government contract industries by contrast have extensive laws and regulations intended to do just as you suggest. All theses rules however did not stop the favoritism and regulatory capture that has historically allowed only a few players to dominate such fields.
The reason is quite simple as above explained, the capture is the self-interest and familiarity of the people making and enforcing the rules. This is why unfortunately no amount of rules will ever get enforced to prevent said abuse of power.

The problem is the power itself exist in the hands which cannot be practically held accountable for such abuse. In the case of the Federal government this is a product of obscuring distance from the people and sheer number of issues to address in a limited number of election cycles.

The problem with such rules is they completely miss the nature of the problem being inherit in the power itself being held by people who cannot be held accountable for misusing almost any of it.

If you want to blame "Capitalism" for government officials running private industry via such excessive micro-managing rules then i think you don't know what capitalism is. May have confused it for a form of socialism.

The truth is as i said before the problem is the power itself. Our system of Federal Government in which we elected 536 federal politicians every 2-6 years is completely incapable of holding any one of them accountable for the miss-management of more than a few issues, much less the thousands they have accumulated control over via 200+ years of largely uninhibited usurpation.

If you believe otherwise, then you must agreed with the choices taken place under every politician on every issue you ever voted for.
