Why does society today say that it's not important for a child to have a father figure in his/her life?

I think it's very important to have a father involved in doing things with the kids yet feminists think that men are no longer needed and that a father figure is just a societal construct that creates a patriarchy ideal. Having a father who keeps the moral and ethical values of traditional family values in check. Kids do wrong the father steps in and teaches the kids punishment.
