Why do people say I sound white?

I’ve lived in the USA for most of my life, and I’m of African American descent. The part I’ve lived in Virginia is pretty diverse and I’ve been surrounded by people of many backgrounds. Sometimes when I talk to people mostly out of state they say “you sound white” how is this even a possibility?

A lot of African Americans celebrate their culture with a distinct cultural vernacular they use in their colloquial dialect and there are certain expressions and ideological clusters they apply to accentuate their culture and ethnic pride, so somebody totally unaffiliated with this type of linguistic or conversational praxis might be viewed as culturally white.
