I can pretty much assure you that most Russians do not care (it's already one of the most depressed societies on the planet), and the rest of the world turning against them feeds the narrative of the nationalists. The rather major detail people like to overlook when calling for Putin's death is that the people who would replace him are even crazier, and I wouldn't put it past some of them to treat a hypothetical demise of Putin from natural causes as an act of war by Great Britain.

In any war, the general populace in the warring country is misled by propaganda. It happened in Germany during WWII, in the US in the Vietnam War, and now it's happening in Russia during the Russian-Ukrainian war.
