It is not likely. While the abortion issue has recently generated headlines and protests, as a general rule it is not a primary motivator in elections for other than a small segment of voters. As a wag once put it, "Americans are opposed to abortion except in cases of rape, incest and me."

That ".. and me" is critical. Americans, as polling shows, tend to be broadly supportive of abortion rights, though when the data is ferreted out, not without restrictions. With most opposing late term abortions. However, for voters in general, they tend not to prioritize it over more immediate issues hat effect them directly.

The most recent example being the Virginia election for Governor. There, education was the principle issue and he result was the election of the pro-life Republican candidate Glenn Youngkin. The polling data shows that, notwithstanding Youngkin's pro-life views, 60% of self-identified pro-choice voters supported Youngkin.

The truth being that for most voters, abortion is not an issue that impacts them directly and therefore it tends not to impact their voting patterns. Thus, in an election where education and the rights of parents was the primary issue, voters gave abortion little or no consideration.

Throw in that, at a time when inflation, crime and immigration are rated the three main issues, it is not likely that the upcoming mid-term elections will be much swayed by the abortion debate. It simply will not be foremost in voter's minds.

Which is not to say that there is not a segment of the population who are single issue voters and for whom abortion will be the top priority. In a close election those single issue voters might make a difference. However, given the current state of affairs, and given that, historically speaking, the party in the White House tends to lose mid-term elections, the odds are that the Democrats will not benefit and will, based on current polls, take at least a 30 seat loss in the House. (The Senate is apt to be closer given that only 1/3 of states vote for Senators in each cycle and this time it just so happens, luck of the draw, that more GOP seats are up then Democrat seats.)

Of course, a week is a long time in politics. However, at least based on history and current data, the abortion debate is not likely to be that consequential to the outcome of the 2022 mid-term elections.

The problem they face is that they have no issues to "fight" for. The gun stuff and abortion stuff will become old news. Even if they obsess on packing the supreme court the major issues (4 last week) are already lost. Nobody cares about "global warming". And will democrats vote for more inflation and higher gas prices?

All Republicans have to do is appeal to common sense and focus on the bad economy since Democrat party have become very goofy and stupid.

It's extremely hard to do good or sale a message to the people when they see the economy and how expensive things are and are getting to win their support and votes.
