Conservatives, which of these values do you oppose?

equality before law,
secularism (Seperation of religion from government),
rule of law (Everybody is accountable to the same laws),
economic freedom,
freedom of speech
freedom of the press
freedom of religion
Ownership of Private property
And a market economy?

None because they're essentially Conservative values, but individual liberties stop as soon as they encroach upon another's.

Believe it or not, these values are the definition of true liberalism. People just don’t correctly affiliate themselves.

These are the liberties outlined in the American constitution. I am conservative and supportive of liberty, I am not on the "progressive" side of the political spectrum.

Self ascribed "Liberals" are paradoxically authoritarian when you ask them about their views on the purpose and jurisdiction of the state.

I am not American, nor live in America, and my country does not provide us with these liberties.

I’m not sure which country you are from, because some countries use the term liberal as actually a conservative, but no. This is the core of American liberalism.

The Libertarian party of America is the primary party that holds these values. This does not describe self-described Liberals or so-called "Democrats".

If you want an overarching nanny state that violates the consent of the populace and infringes upon their rights; be it guns, speech, association, etc. you are not for liberty.

The "Lib Dems" in my country were so devoid of these values they even engaged in Newspeak, and couldn't even define what the word Woman meant, thus undermining their legal rights.

Conservative Libertarian parties are the only ones you can trust to conserve and maintain these values. So called "Progressives" violate and amend the rights of the majority to appease the minority all the time; this is not only illiberal, it's anti-democratic.

The Lib Dems are leftwing, they are not conservative, and do not abide by any of these values in principe. Indeed, None of our parties uphold these values in principle, only in platitudes.

I agree with all of those to one degree or another. However there are a lot of words in there than can be abused and can have their meanings twisted. Liberals love to play that game.

Ahhhh. Here’s the thing. These values are what describes a Liberal. People get annoyed when I say this but Liberalism is very close to conservatism. Liberals aren’t your enemies. Leftists are.

No it's not. It may have been at one time but not today. I don't know why people love to use labels from the past and try to apply it today. Even during my lifetime the labels have changed considerably.

Because what you think of as liberalism is being a leftist. Liberalism is extremely close to being a conservative. We have a huge amount of agreeing ideas. The slight difference is when it may come to social welfare. A conservative may believe in no assistance from the government, sink or swim. A liberal believes in SOME assistance from the government to take off the edge and stop you from starving, but just enough to survive. A leftist believes in enough government assistance where you can be lazy and thrive.

There are a lot of definitions for liberal and conservative, but you are not using modern definitions. The only enduring definitions are being proactive vs being against rapid change. Anything else is dynamic.

To say that there is little difference between conservative and liberal is not something 99.9% of the population would disagree on. They hate each other and have dramatically different views on a whole lot of things. and the gap is widening FAST. It's been widening my entire life, but has greatly accelerated in the last 15 years or so.

It's not always what you believe in, but how you apply it. I used to be considered pretty damn liberal by any definition. When I "became" conservative my views about problems didn't even change much. What changed had to do with methodology and how those issues were dealt with.

Claims of "equality before the law" for example is pretty meaningless. It's a vastly oversimplified idealism. It's only how you try to deal with it that really matters.

I never opposed separation of church and state or freedom of religion. But there is a growing faction of ANTItheists (different from atheists) who are aggressively pushing freedom FROM religion.

That I have a serious problem with.

I understand that completely. As a liberal, I want freedom of choice of religion. I’ll believe in Yaweh, you believe in Allah (Christians in middle east actually say allah too), or whoever, and just like me and my Islamic brothers don’t want to be forced into the other’s religion, don’t force me to deny god

Exactly. A well functioning society operates best with freedom of religion. Even Genghis Khan as brutal as he was believed in freedom of religion.

Jesus did command that his disciples to share the gospel in the New Testament. But he never commanded persecution nor did Apostle Paul (who was considered by most to be the greatest apostle). He said if people were unwilling to listen then his disciples should wipe the dirt from their sandals and go along their way. He didn’t tell his followers to twist arms and force conversion.

Unfortunately there were medieval factions who twisted the word of God and did persecute nonbelievers (e. g. the Spanish Inquisition). However the vast majority of modern Christians are not like this at all.

And I respect your faith. I know the majority of Islam is not violent and oppressive. However I also know things are much more complicated in that culture (Middle East, sectarian issues).

Did you read the comments first? It is. Because these values are very “conservative” but define Liberalism. Liberals are much closer to conservatives than they realize. Leftists are the “liberals” you see.
