Because most people are too dumb to make it work. They put all their eggs in one basket, spend all their savings, and expect to make it the first year. A long time ago I heard that something like 90% of small businesses fail in the first year here in California. Mostly due to poor planning (pre-covid). Small businesses need to subscribe to a longer term plan, like the Japanese business model, which is plan for failure and don't expect to turn a profit for 5 years. More of a long term investment, play the long game. Like for example, the way the Japanese took over the car or television market. They made a better quality product and sold it for cheaper, until they got a good reputation and started taking over the market. Then slowly raise prices so they didn't scare off business.

I hope to start a business one day. A restaurant. Gonna be some good ass burgers 😋
However, I need to get into more cooking and for that to happen, I need free time, a teacher and a ton of patience. Good cooking don't happen overnight.

Most small businesses fail during the first year. It is hard work. There is a lot of responsibility and every time you turn around, the government or an insurance company has a hand in your pocket.

Financial ruin. Stats are against you. But educating yourself, since schools just teach “obey”, and learning about small business financing, you can make it work.
