What do you think is the true story behind the Crooked Forest?

This grove of pine trees was planted in the then German Province of Pomerania in the 1930's. The reason behind why the trees grew crooked is unknown. Some think a natural force caused it. Others believe it was human intervention.

While watching a video on off-grid cabin building, the though occurred to me that some clever soul may have devised a way to grow cabinet or door handles.

They're grown that way to make ships hulls. It was common practice in Spain but i didn't know the Germans did it too

I would think there was some kind of explosion that hit nearby when they were sprouts and that bents them over. Like a nucllar blast of some sort or an asteroid hit. There WAS one near there about 100 years ago!!

Perhaps a severe windstorm pushed them flat and they grew back.
