What are your thoughts about minimum wage? Is cheap labor necessary to have affordable goods? Do we get paid enough?

It doesn't matter. Companies can’t afford to be that cheap. People aren’t accepting it right now. And it’s forcing companies to hire and scramble. It’s stressing the fuck out of the employees that are still employed. Owners and shareholders are the ones who need to be “woke”. It’s not about more at this point, it’s about losing less. Subtracting a negative is a positive. Pay your employees so they’re happy or go out of business because they went to work for someone who would, their choice.
You're not supposed to be able to live on minimum wage, it's just supposed to give you money in your pocket until you can find something better! If you want $15.00 an hour, stick with your $7.50 an hour job until you can FIND ONE that pays $15.
My ex-fiance only worked about 16 hours a week for something like $3 to $5-something an hour and still brought home more that I did busting ass for 40 hours a week just above minimum wage. She was a waitress at a bar/restaurant.
It is 7.25 now but a lot of places are paying much higher now. Working for some fast food places you can start at 14 to 15 dollars an hour. I think if you are working for minimum wage then you are doing something wrong.
The current minimum wage is ridiculous. No one should work 40 hours a week and still be at or below poverty level.
"Should all entry level positions should be occupied by young people?"
Yeah, pretty much, it simply means you don't have enough important skills to warrant higher pay.. At least as an adult if you are going to start off at entry level at least work your way up even if it takes years.. Have a little ambition..
So you think all entry level jobs should be held by 16-21 year olds. There not enough of them to keep those jobs going. Have you seen mc dondalds lately. All the for hite signs
See there's your problem with your mindset. "Should". As if your moral exhortations "should this, should that?" can solve scarcity.
It's not a question of "Should people be expected to take a loss for the betterment of humanity?" or whatever nonsense you believe. The question is, if somebody comes into a business and they provide little value, if there's better more skilled workers how is that going to work out economically?
No amount of lefties telling employers that they "should" overpay for labor is ever going to make it make economic sense.
Sure minimum wage laws help a certain amount of people, but only those that can provide a minimum wage's worth of utility. The benefit is necessarily at the expense of everybody that gets priced out of the market.

What do you make an hour?
@Zeus_66 But now with the economy we have it ends up being here job for life.
@JDavid25 Um, no, there isn’t. Apparently you haven’t been paying attention to the job market.
@love_conquers_lust Yes, I've been paying attention to the economy.. Putting the minimum wage up doesn't make sense because it'll only make the economy worse.. It'll price more people out of the Market and destroy small businesses who can't afford to pay their employees that much.. Or they'll have to raise the prices of their products..
@JDavid25 They aren’t paying minimum wage, man. Prices are already going up. Like what the hell, do you read or shop? They’re paying way the fuck above it and it’s still climbing. Those high school kids you’re talking about are laughing at $7/hr. That’s early 2000s shit.
I’ll rephrase that for you, raising the minimum wage won’t do anything because employers are already paying well above it. Even foreigners have standards. You can’t have a static minimum wage, inflate the money supply by 20% and expect people to think, “oh things are expensive, guess I gotta cut back” while companies are posting record high profits. Get real man.
@love_conquers_lust Depends on where you live that Highschool kids are laughing at $7 an hour.. Not everywhere is an expensive Urban area.. That's a fine start in this economy for somebody with no skills.. Point is we shouldn't be having any conversation about minimum wage because no grown adult should be looking to live off of that.. And continuous growth will price out small businesses causing less competition for big businesses to where they can charge higher prices because they would know we have no better, cheaper alternatives.. It's happening right now..
@JDavid25 Larger companies are getting hit hard too. In fact, because they are so large, they are losing far more money than small businesses BECAUSE of their size. And big businesses, have OTHER big businesses competing with them fighting suck up the lost market of their opponents. Big businesses don’t waste time with the small fish, they’re more concerned with the big fish. If they do the opposite, other big businesses will squash them, and then squash the small businesses.
@love_conquers_lust "Larger companies are getting hit hard too. In fact, because they are so large, they are losing far more money than small businesses BECAUSE of their size."
No they.. Don't.. Companies like Amazon are more than fine with higher minimum wages because then they get to slowly replace low skilled workers with automated systems.. And it's more than just competing.. Smaller businesses are the economy.. They are the backbone of capitalism.. But also the property for those small businesses that go out of business gets swallowed up by the bigger businesses or by the city subsidizing those bigger businesses.. If a business gets too big with no competition prices will go up.. Along with lack of supplies to fit the demand.. But I don't know where you got the fact that minimum wage will affect Large businesses more than small businesses.. That doesn't even make sense..
@JDavid25 Holy shit, what company doesn’t have a fucking competitor, no matter the fucking size? Name one. Intel would have been an answer years ago but even that is dead now with AMD. If fucking BP decides to start screwing their workers, guess what, Conoco and Exxon and Valero, whatever, they’re all waiting to alant and directional drill the shit out of them and drive BP back into obscurity as a small business. Big companies have larger budgets because they made it as good small businesses, but so did other businesses. The US has anti trust laws for a reason. The wages need to pick up EVERYWHERE.
@love_conquers_lust This is not me being anti big businesses.. More like pointing out how these huge businesses like Amazon, or YouTube or Google, gain so much power.. They hardly have any competition.. But that's beside the point.. The point is that minimum wage hurts small businesses who can't afford to get their employees (without increasing their prices) that much money.. And it hurts even less skilled workers because it prices them out of the market.. We don't need higher minimum wage.. There's plenty of good paying blue collar jobs just looking for people and also the government getting their grubby dirty ass hands out of the market well greatly help.. In fact the government should do absolutely nothing..
@JDavid25 Are you an entrepreneur? Because if I were you I’d be doing everything I could to hide that fact. I’d be driving a broken down beater to work.
The only thing I agree with you on is the government should do nothing. The market is working beautifully right now because it’s teaching mother fuckers like you that you can’t price someone out of a market when no one will fill the void you created by being cheap, you’ve priced yourself out. I’ve heard that dumb argument before and even used it on an employer during my review, mother fucker decided to offer me a promotion treating other people the same way he treated me. Fuck you, bud.

Why pay someone a livable wage if they're willing to do it for so much less?
There has always been a ruling class and a working class in society. That has never changed. And "job creators" only allegiance is too their share holders. If people want employers to pay more they have to force their hand.
This is the only thing I love about the pandemic. You have so many businesses whining about how they can't find help (it's been called the great migration. People leaving their job of years for something better). And many employers have been FORCED to open their coffers or close their doors. How many tears do you shed for big business? NONE. This is a time when the little gets to tell the job creators "it's not personal it's just business" 🤣
I will never understood the argument. I have never paid my folks minimum wage. It doesn't matter who I have employed. Even when it came to manual labor, I always paid extra because I wanted better workers, guys who worked longer, harder, and were more flexible.
Because I have customers who can be demanding.
I think we should get rid of a minimum wage in every negotiate their own wage with her employer if you’re a 16 year old work at McDonald’s so probably get paid five bucks if you’re an 18-year-old working at McDonald’s you’re probably will get paid 10.
Meanwhile stick and ball players get paid 40 million per year now.
I refuse to take part in this farce any longer. I'm worth $1000 per day if I could find someone willing to hire me for the skills I really have. I shouldn't be working for $10 or even $20 per hour or whatever. That's a joke and a rip-off.
The thing is nobody should be staying at an entry level job for years where they are trying to make a living off of that.. Entry level jobs are for people with little skills and experience.. They were primarily for teenagers to get their foot into the workforce and get pay a little compensation.. But now people are trying to equate them with skilled labor, compensate people who for one reason or another don't try to gain more skills..
If the minimum wage can't afford basic things like rent, food and utility bills, then it's slavery by another name.
"Is cheap labor necessary to have affordable goods?"
No. Less corporate profit does, though.
The goal of a minimum wage job is not to make you rich but to give you a headstart. you're not supposed to rely on it. You can find an actual job unless you've majored in a useless degree like literature, liberal arts and lesbian underwater basketweaving dance theory.
I fully support the minimum law but the pay of low skill workers should definitely keep up with cost of living.
If you work full time regardless of age and put in work then you should get paid what's just for your labor.
Exploiting people's through cheap labor is extremely evil.
Cheap labor isn't cheap in the long run because governments, charities and private individuals have to supplement it.
It's great
No, quality is better
I think so I mean hell I'm earning the equivalent of about $3 an hour and work twice as long as most people, I'm debt-free and happy as could be
For service jobs hell no. But other get paid WAY to much. I fotfet the exact numbers but the CEO of Dollar general makes around 925% then a store manager let alone cashier. Doesn't make sense.
In many places it has gotten better. I think though it should be enough to accommodate the expenses of the state you live in. Often it doesn’t though.
Look at you pretending anyone gives a shit about our political opinions
The only problem I have with minimum wage, is that people who make higher wages tend to lose their purchasing power of the money they make
Cheap labour, yes. But you can import cheap goods from China as long as you're not worried about the trade deficit.
I think minimum wage should be done away with. All it does is drive up the cost of goods.
I think raise it to $25 an hour or $30 until inflation is under control
I’m on the Keynsian economics side. Increase the middle class. Fast.
Why is there a map of America? I don't live in America so why should I care about their wages?
Looking at that map, the more successful states have a higher minimum wage. The republican Bible belt states are way behind.
Eliminate the minimum wage.
The minimum wage is an abusive wage.
everyone should be a million air
No one can live on that
Minuem wage your gonna minimum effort at best.
