The more you read about the downside to electric vehicles the less it looks like they will save the planet. The electricity still has to be generated and the batteries have to be made and they use a lot of different materials that has to be mined.
Then the batteries have to be replaced every 4 or 5 years The batteries are expensive to recycle so people will be burying them in the woods behind their homes and the lead will leach into the water table.
I really liked the idea of the electric car but really wonder if it will end up saving the planet.
They won't. In fact they would just make it worse. Production of an EV creates 17 cubic meters of CO2 per car. A normal naturally aspirated car will only have about 7 cubic meters on its production. If we would use E-fuels and zero emission engines which do already exist then EV's would become redundant in a short time. Not to mention Ev's are more dangerous in an accident, if they catch fire you can't do anything as it just keeps burning and they have often appeared in news articles to catch fire our of thin air. Hydrogen as example would just have a massive explosion with little fire.
Excellent point.
I ran out for cat food just now and saw one of Musks finest being hauled away on a tow truck. The same thoughts crossed my mind. What if it had exploded in the wreck? Toxic burn better or worse than a regular full gas engine? Bet the owner suffered a stiff loss from what they originally paid.
We need to go back to old fashioned trolley buses. No need for exoensive batteries. If we can electrify miles of rail track, we can do the same for buses. Maybe cars too!

Li ion tech is old and not fantastic for cars and other heavy applications. The next gen battery tech is due to charge much faster and better deal with the temperature thing and avoid the burny, burny.
EVs won't save the planet but they will help offset pollution from built up areas.
It would consume more fossil fuels to generate the electricity needed to recharge electric vehicles than it would to just use gas-powered vehicles. How anyone thinks the former is more efficient or better for the environment boggles my brain.
There isn't enough copper in the crust of the Earth to make enough electric vehicles to go around. The electric engine and stuff uses like a ton of copper per car to get a `100HP engine.
Nope, not as long as coal and other fossil fuels are needed to generate electricity and mining for the materials needed to make batteries is required to build them.
Peak oil is coming. We don’t have a choice. The environment will adapt regardless of what we do. The issue on the table is weaning off oil before prices get out of control. Just wait, we haven’t seen anything yet.
So… when did you get rid of your dangerous cellphone? 🤔
Not a chance in hell and, what does the planet need saved from, beside Biden and the loony lefties?
I just looked that up. Very concerning. And no, I don’t think EV is as promising as some people claim.
No. That shit seems more like a sophisticated extortion racket.
Are they going to make people less stupid? I mean, REALLY less stupid? If so, then yes.
Nope, electric vehicles are actually less environmentally friendly than gas cars. And that is even with the electricity only coming from renewables.
Price of progress. Should we do nothing because we fear failure?
You never saw a bus on fire before?
Heck no
