If I bought into all the hype about electric cars and rushed out to buy one only to be told by my state power authority not to charge it I’d be angry and have some unkind things to say about the leadership which foisted this debacle on an unsuspecting public whose hearts were in the right place and were let down by a shortsighted incompetent leader.

The senile idiot in the White House wants to do away with fossil fuels. My two cars have a combined total of 130,000 miles on them and I drive 5,000 to 6,000 miles a year. Both of my cars are among the ten most likely vehicles to last 200,000 miles. I’m 58, so the cars I own now should, at least one of them, out last me. They will need fuel for decades.

I’m not sure what the feasibility is of scrapping cars with a useful life of decades left in them. In fact, one study shows that manufacturing a Tesla battery releases as much CO2 as driving a mid sized car 60,000 miles releases. Forget the economic and environmental waste of scrapping a perfectly good car, I’m not sure if an EV is the better technology even if I needed a new car, anyway.

I think EVs will replace ICEs eventually, but I’m not convinced the technology is there, yet.

I just heard that where i live they want to follow California and ban sales of gas powered cars by 2035. I am saving to buy a new pickup truck in 2034. That should last for the rest of my life.

I was quoting the Heritage Foundation. A study at MIT showed three to sixteen tons of CO2 making a battery. My calculations showed the Heritage Foundation probably used the sixteen tons to come up with that.

I figured that would be 40,000 miles in a car getting 25 MPG, burning 1,600 gallons of gas, 6.7 pounds to a gallon, gas being 87% carbon and CO2 being 28% carbon by weight.

I’m related to someone who wrote his father-in-law‘s coattails to a board position whose primary responsibility to the company is to write Green grants. A couple years or so into the job he bought his third home, a three story mansion in the ritzy snooty part of town and is renting the other 2 to college kids in the area. He regularly has several million dollars in grants cross his desk a week.

They’re about $25,000 to $40,000 depending on battery size and how many solar panels you want. The range is 200 to 1,000 miles and 20 to 40 miles per day charging from the sun depending on your specs.

As far as the economics go. I’d be spending $30,000 to save $1,200 per year in gas.
