I'd say that unfortunately we are pretty close to living in a 1984 like world..

Most aspects of Orwell’s book reflect the current reality of many countries in the world. In the book telescreens and cameras are utilized throughout the novel to monitor the people of Oceania. They are in people’s homes in the form of a telescreen and are positioned on street corners. Today, nearly every store you walk into has cameras watching you, as well as banks and atms. It is possible for a person’s entire route to be tracked the moment they leave their home. Additionally, the mass spread of technology contributes to our surveillance. Who's to say that our phones and laptops couldn’t be accessed by the government? Artificial intelligence devices like Siri and Alexa, who have the capability of responding to verbal cues, could easily be used as recording/listening devices. Our obsession with technology could be contributing to the invasion of our privacy and the accessibility to our private lives

Yes and no. It will probably be the case for some countries. Other countries will likely just deteriorate and break apart into small sections, most countries eventually will probably. I imagine a lot of things will fall apart, even in countries that do go down an authoritarian path.

Things are definitely going to get worse in the future but the oppressor won't necessarily be a evil dictatorship. Boomers were the last and only generation to be born in the peak of civilization and I doubt there will be any generation to experience that life like that did. Not for a while.

Democrats have already weaponized federal law enforcement to control their political opponents and have selectively removed people from the military who would not support their anti American agenda. It is frightening to see.

Getting there nicely. Over here, in about half the country, if you're a woman, your right to your own body are either fully stolen or are in the process of having it stolen. Not to mention several lawmakers are seeking to find ways to prosecute women who go to different states for abortion and others are seeking to stop pregnant women from leaving the state. .
Cops out here already have essentially free reign to frame you, rape you, rob you and kill you. The Supreme Court and courts in general already make it hard to even bring charges much less convict them, and who will investigate them to begin with, their own friends and coworkers.
