There’s so much going on right now in the uk that america is just irrelevant as far as news is concerned. I feel like Americans here (GAG) are very right winged. So is it bad if that’s all I hear about america lately?
+1 yThat is very bad. As you correctly said, most people here are very right-wing. But also in general, you can't get "news" from random ass people on some random ass internet forum. That's not "news", it's just opinions. And in this case very right-wing opinions mostly.
Just look the comments here. One guy is saying the "progressive leadership" (our leadership is neoliberal capitalist, far from progressive) wants to implement communism. What an insane claim. Another guy advises you to watch Fox News to get "the real story". Even more insane, as every even remotely sane person knows that Fox News is ultra right-wing and their blatant lies and distortions of truth have been exposed for decades now. You can hardly call them a "news" outlet. Then there's a guy claiming American media is "predominantly controlled by left-wing" which is complete nonsense. The "left" mainstream media in the US is actually neoliberal (but your average right-wing moron doesn't understand the difference between liberal and left), and the reality is that right-wing media is HUGE in the US.
That's all you'll ever get on here, minus small exceptions. It's not nearly as bad among the female users, but GaG is also predominantly male.20 Reply

+1 yI’ve admitted to UK subjects on here that I’ll take their word for UK news because it’s just not relevant to me on our side of the pond, nor do I have any reliable way of verifying accuracy. It’s not necessarily bad or dishonest or false that most people care more about the dumpster fire in their own yard than someone else’s which is remote from them and at the individual level doesn’t effect them directly. Why borrow trouble when you’ve enough of your own already?

+1 yFollowing things you can't do anything about, and intentionally getting your body stressed out and doing harm to ones self is a crazy thing to do. Yet so many people follow the news, then get super stressed, even though they can't do anything about it.
Best to not follow it, if there is a emergency they'll send an alert to your phone to make you aware by activating the emergency broadcast system.
That is all the news one should need to follow, so don't worry about only seeing it here... probably shouldn't even read that here.

+1 yWell you're probably a totally unimportant person working at McDonald's and living a mediocre life so for you the United States isn't really important, just like England and Germany and Sweden could disappear tomorrow for all we care. As a normal person other countries are not really important

Oh ok, well then the US might be quite important. If you're financially successful or political or something then you should probably keep up with the 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 it's fascinated actually that California alone is the world's 6th largest economy. The US itself is what drives the entire world.

+1 yGaG is an opinion forum, not a news outlet. Trying to get your news from here is almost the same as going to a psychic to decide who you should vote for or what clothes you need to wear. Basically it is pointless.
News is not reliable in the U. S., regardless of which party a station is attuned to. EVERY major news outlet has a political agenda and political alignment. Democrats will say Republican news is unreliable and same with Republican news outlets to Democrats.
The real issue in the USA is that politics have reached too far into everyday life. The entire point of the U. S. Constitution and the entire point of the USA's existence in the first place was to create a nation where the Federal Government had very limited reach in the lives of private citizens and to give those same protections against states' overreach as well.
The ONLY things news is good for in the U. S. is weather (half the time they cannot even get that right), local school closing announcements and occasionally reporting the results of important court cases, again with political bias.

+1 yI'm a college student in New York, so the opinions on G@G do seem more right-wing than what I am used to. But that's probably just because both NY and U. S. colleges in general tend to lean more liberal than the rest of America. Overall, the United States is much more conservative than the UK and the rest of Western Europe.
I don't think it's really necessary for you to follow American news if more important things are happening in your country. But if you do want to stay up to date on events in the U. S., you should probably use an actual news agency rather than GirlsAskGuys.
10 ReplyThat's all you hear because the vast majority of our major media outlets are left wing, have an agenda, and frequently distort facts to support their arguments. Fox does it too but they're pretty much the only popular right leaning/wing/whatever media outlet. There are others but not on the scale Fox is. We don't have any laws or regulations that ensure or even promote accurate reporting. Money talks.

+1 yAmericans are not right wing here. But if you're only exposed to left wing politics through the media or liberal friends it might seem like people here are very conservative.
The United States is actually very liberal compared to most of the world. But that doesn't mean everyone is liberal. It's split, which is what's represented here. It's probably just something that you are not normally exposed to, so it stands out when you see it.
You are young, and probably hang out with a lot of young people. Young people are very commonly liberal and become more conservative as they grow older. You also live in Europe which is the most liberal place in the world by far. If you compare to Europe, virtually everyplace else in the world will seem conservative.

+1 yHere’s the thing, no one ever pays attention to good news. It’s always the “doom and gloom” that gets views, and sells newspapers. It doesn’t matter what country. We, like any other country have some serious issues, but we also have some really good (and underreported) news stories.

+1 yHaha. It’s about as accurate as you will hear about it anywhere else. America is rife with propaganda and agenda bias. Corruption is evident from the top. Granted we hide it better than a lot of other countries but it’s plain. I would say don’t trust everything you hear about America. And don’t believe the rhetoric of how amazing it is. It’s cool to live here if you LOVE stuff and living a “fast” life. But take everything with a grain of salt.

And while gag of may be full of right wing, trumptard, fascists, they are the minority in America. As evidence of that, consider that Republican presidential candidates have only one the popular vote in America once in the past 20 years.

Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yThere's nothing wrong with United States problem is our progressive leadership thinks everything is wrong with United States. They just want to become communist. Because it's the new thing with the progressive people. Here in the here in the United States we have two groups of people those that want to be free from tyranny and those that still want to be to be incarcerated by a bunch of nitwit rulers that think we have no concept of governing ourselves.
