Why does government get to collect rent on transactions between citizens for which they have provided no product or services? How can that be legal?

If the government provides no product or services what entitles them to collect anything? Other than that’s just the way it is or whatever consumption tax is. Can I get my cut of your next grocery purchase then? No? Anyone? Then why should government?

I don't like any taxes. But some taxes are better than others' I actually prefer sales over income tax. I prefer taxes on consumption and services that people use rather than general taxes.

Sale tax is a consumption tax. Gasoline tax is a consumption tax. Entry fees to parks are consumption taxes. I prefer any of those over general taxes. And I prefer general taxes over "sin taxes".

Property tax pays schools and vehicle tax (registration or whatever) pays roads and bridges but I'll admit I'm not sure what sales tax pays. But you can say the same about income tax
