wow thats a lot. Did he actually say people were crisis actors as I cannot find footage anywhere. I know he said it was a false flag attack but I don't remember his saying that.

It seems grotesquely out of proportion for what's typical in a defamation case, even with someone high profile involved.

To prove defamation of character, a plaintiff typically must prove that (1) a false statement was made by the defendant, (2) the statement was about the plaintiff, (3) the statement was published to third parties with at least a negligent level of intent, and (4) the plaintiff suffered damages a result of the statement.

I didn't follow this one pretty much at all, so *maybe* a solid case was made, but I find it very hard to believe that, even if found guilty, the case was worth anywhere near $50,000,000. I do know for a fact that Alex backtracked on his original statements not long after the sandy Hook shooting and apologized for it, but for a defamation case to be worth that much relative to what they usually settle on, it would still only amount to about $3,500,000 and that's assuming he has been continuously defaming then ever since the shooting 10 years ago. To justify going higher than that, they should've had to prove that not only did defamation by legal definition occured, but that it inflicted that much in damages in the time it was happening. Keep in mind that Amber Heard effectively destroyed Johnny Depp's life and career over the course of several years and her punishment was a fraction of this. So without having been in the court itself, it seems to me that this is highly abnormal and could probably be appealed pretty easily unless this was about more than just Sandy Hook. $50,000,000 is more like something you'd start at with threats while settling on something much lower behind closed doors in a case like this.

um... no. I still haven't seen any proof that he was wrong. They tore down the school almost instantly, never dug into why that "father of a murdered student" was on camera laughing until the "news" started filming and then he was all tears. They actually denied attempts to investigate the whole situation. That's the definition of cover-up.

And even if it did happen and Alex Jones was wrong, why the eff aren't all the "journalists and news organizations" being sued for the bullshit they knowingly pedaled against Trump and other conservatives? Why is this ONE incident, the one we're not allowed to be wrong about?

Who would you call the person inside a false flag attack? A crisis actor perhaps? Another thing to remember it's a civil court case and not criminal court. He's not going to jail over this but the question is how much he made over this lie?

Regardless the easiest way to avoid this charge was providing any evidence it actually happened and that was a complete airball and he knew it for 8 years and still got bank for it.

Alex jones got his foundation for his conspiracy empire off the back of sandy hook. Therefore the familys should get all the monetary value of it if it's proven a lie. Alex johns himself already calls it a lie. So every single dollar attributed to that lie should go to family. 50 million with all things considered is a honest estimation.

He absolutely SHOULD be held accountable for misinformation. Every person or entity who claims to be a journalist or news source should be. But the settlement is outrageous. That’s purely punitive because his nonsense didn’t cost anyone that much.
By comparison, a court in Virginia decided that Amber Heard’s lies ACTUALLY cost him potential earnings. Depp demonstrated that he lost out on over $50M, and that’s what he was suing for. The jury awarded him $10M in compensation, and only $5M in punitive damages. Ten times that in punishment for Jones? Ell oh ell!
At least maybe next time he’ll be more sure of his sources before he spouts off. Especially if it might hurt someone’s po’ wittle feewings. Ell oh ell!
