It is amazing how bad things got in just 18 months. I have seen things that I never thought possible in the US. Wait until winter when people cannot heat their homes and can't afford enough food.
It’s astonishing to me how quickly things got dramatically shittier under this presidency. My buddy and I can’t get over the cost of items and supply chain problems. It’s a toss up on whether or not my grocery store will have goddamn coffee creamer in stock. Coffee creamer for fuck’s sake! What’s next, soup lines? Goddamn.
I think America is basically done for. I have no hope in the future of this nation and its people. None.
Republicans are calling for a new civil war because they’re so pissed they lost the last one. And yes trolls, I know Lincoln was a Republican, & Davis was a Democrat, but the Southern Democrats became the modern GOP in the 1950s, so spare me your revisionist history bullshit.

so much fear here. god forbid we actually do something positive for this rock we are riding before it starts to fight back against the abuse it’s received.
The politicians, business elites, bureaucrats, and high-ranking Democratic Party officials only care about lining their own pockets and this is part of it. Depressions and recessions don't matter to them- they grift off of the taxpayers and their economic fates are not tied to the real economy.
Good to see another oldster who gets the reference. On the other hand, if Congress properly shifts this November, and barring massive vote fraud it should, perhaps the brakes can be put on the madness.
Yeah, it’s going to hit us harder. The whole climate thing is a backdoor to socialism. You do not want oil to go away. Many things you use on a daily basis are byproducts of oil. Over 6,000 things. Think about that. Your phone, your tv. Oil is naturally made in the ground through bacteria. Heck, even motor oil can be used as an organic pesticide for plants. Coal is Carbon for plants.

There should not be a "Depression", but a lot of economists have said it will bring "Stagflation". Should we get ready for it? Well yeah. Always have a backup plan.
This is what happens when people who use their economic polices to get them out of the whole that their economic polices made. Democrats can not connect the dots that what they think is good for the economy is not working
I can tell you majored in English,, not Economics.

Jimmy2 clearly mentioned government spending, but consumer spending is down because of inflation deliberately created by the Democrats‘ reckless fiscal policy and, above all, their deliberate war on fossil fuels which hugely raised the price of food and energy and has dampened spending on durable goods. Real Consumer spending (I. e., after inflation) will not recover until these policies are reversed the cost of producing is less distorted by government policy.
You're welcome to clearly explain what you think should be done. But I doubt you can do that, much less suggest anything that is economically coherent. As an English major, you should at least be able to express yourself clearly rather than being vague, even if you don't understand the implications of inflation on consumer spending.
But I'll give you a hint- what happens to producer prices when energy costs rise sharply? And then what happens to consumer prices when producer prices rise sharply?
And no, an economy does not turn around overnight, but good policies speed it up.
@Avicenna nice sidestep. But seriously, are we not a consumerist economy? We don't manufacturer, we provide service and purchase. That's what drives the economy right? Can we at least agree there?

We do still manufacture some things, and you do know that energy is used in agriculture and transport of goods, right? What happens to consumer spending when consumers have to pay much more for gas, electricity, and everything in general?
@Avicenna that's the point. The spending will kick start the consumerism. As the Covid stimulus did. It'd be nice if trillions weren't spend on meaningless tax cuts and farm aid. But pork barrels.

The COVID stimulus caused asset price booms, especially in housing and occurred alongside lockdowns which reduced a lot of economic activity. Too much money chasing fewer goods/services since productive capacity was reduced doesn't mean there is a boom in consumer spending- it means there is higher inflation. And that's exactly what happened. Then the Biden Administration caused energy price inflation.
@Avicenna but they were also saved by the stimulus. you're extremist, namecalling is blinding you. I accept Hayak's economic views when the time calls for it. But every depression and recession was saved by stimulus.
The COVID recession was self-inflicted, and the lockdowns were not necessary. That you're calling NOW for high levels of increased spending is crazy (or as you would like, extreme) and would merely make inflation much worse and result in yet higher interest rates. Do you want a Treasury bond crash? Huge credit card defaults? Housing and stock market crashes? That's what would happen.
I understand that you want to make some more sales, but what you're calling for is insane.
You can't stimulate your way out of a recession in a high inflation environment where interest rates are rising. Monetary policy is a more effective way of fighting a downturn than fiscal policy.
@Avicenna how do you do know the lockdowns werent necessary? And you fcks never seem to mind big spending when your guys in office. Or dont you know Trump spent just as much as Obama in half the time?
Sigh. Sweden made the right decision not to lock down. And the lockdowns in the US did a lot of damage to children in particular. and the elderly.
There are no budget hawks on the Democrats' side, there are some on the Republican side. But you have to admit that your spending has been uniquely wasteful and designed to line the pockets of Democratic politicians and their preferred constituents and donors. And it's coming on top of lost of wasteful spending as the politicians strip the country for their own benefit.
