This is nothing new. Russia and the US can't fight each other in open combat so they have to do it by proxy.

This happened in the Korean and Vietnam war with the soviet union and warsaw pact (along with china) countries giving the nort Koreans and North Vietnamese a lot of surplus military equipment and some of their latest weaponry.

Russia has been posing as the regional strong man for a few decades now they have to back it up.

We tried in the south Vietnam to supply the south Vietnamese with aid, weapons and training but we'd already lost as the south Vietnamese was led by corrupt and incompetent politicians who were more worried about lining their own pockets than fighting the North Vietnamese and the alienated the rural Vietnamese who ended up supporting the vietcong and the ARVN being badly led lost heart. We tried fighting the war for the south Vietnamese but lost not because we were defeated on the battlefield but because we were defeated at home in the shock TET offensive. We wiped the vietcong off the map during TET but the damage was done.

Similar situation in Afghanistan except the Taliban after the invasion withdrew from Afghanistan and waited 20 years for the US military to leave using the time to train their forces even having taliban recruits join the afgan national army and police to receive training from us instructors. When the US left most of the afgan national army and police defected to the taliban.

The Ukrainians are willing to do the fighting themselves. The US military has tons and tons of mothballed military equipment and ammunition that its looking to get rid of or replace so why not give it to Ukraine anyhow.

Should USA have sided with Ukraine? Yes. If you want to avoid a war against Russia and China then this is absolutely the best path forward. The alternative would be to wait for Russia to invade the next country on their long hit-list. Moldova, Mongolia, Estonia, Lativa, Lithuania, Poland, Finland etc..

Also you got China getting ready to invade Taiwan. Having Russia FAIL at their invasion of Ukraine would not only put a stop to Russia on a permanent basis but also scare China away from their invasion plans.

Will Russia and China team up? No. They hate each other. Best they could do is China making Russia their bitch after they lose the war in Ukraine.

Why does America love a good underdog story? Donno.. Hollywood?

Are we ready for serious war? NATO is, Russia and China is not. Aside from Russia literally losing their whole army and all of their inherited equipment from the Soviet Union on a pointless war in Ukraine, both of them are decades away from having a respectable military and both of them are going to economically fall apart in the next few years so they are not a legitimate threat.

Well, you know Russia just stated that they are going to upped the ante if Ukraine gets long range weapons.

They can't. Not even worried. You do not go into a war like this without doing your worst from the very beginning. Threats that Russia would somehow escalate the conflict because USA gave Ukraine a new shinier rocket are just childish tantrums and something they have threatened ever since the war started.

America tends to fuck up every war it's ever been in. From Yugoslavia, to Iraq, Vietnam, Libya, Columbia, Afghanistan... the list goes on.

Ukraine will just end up a broken country like all of them because it trusted America.

America always tries to profiteer from everybody. In Ukraine it's profiting from the weapons and debt it's selling those fools.

But this time it will end up defunct like the Soviet Union, and probably end up getting broken up. There is just no way the American economy can continue with those debts.

Probably not- but it's likely it'll America coming for the already-in-progress major war. Just like what happened in World War 1. And World War 2. And 1812. And Vietnam. And Korea. And- well, you get the idea.

No, the US shouldn't've sided with Ukraine- after either withdrawing their attempt to join NATO, or upon being rejected, the Ukrainians should've formed another alliance with one of their neighbors- it's not the US is the only non-Russian power in the world. We're on the opposite side of the planet, after all. Our continued involvement is just sending the message that maintaining the global order is our responsibility, even if we're not in the least involved.

As much as I despise the man, Reagan at least had the sense to SELL weapons to the Iranians, rather than just GIVE them (like he did with the Afghans).

Yes. For a major world power, major war is always coming. That's the price.

Yes, the US should have sided with Ukraine. Not just from a moral standpoint, but also because if Russia were to expand and gain power, they would use that power against the US and its allies.

Had Russia conquered Ukraine in a month, like they thought they would, then yes, China probably would have partnered up with them. Now that they have been publicly humiliated on a global stage, China may be dissuaded from assisting them.

Underdog stories appeal to us because of the hope they inspire. If you don't have hope, you have nothing.

Ready or not, war comes all the same. It's inevitable, like death and taxes. You can stave it off for a time, but you'll never stop it.

*A better President, Trump or Reagan would have arranged a peaceful solution. Our government is stupid, weak, incompetent and corrupt. They are also ignorant of history as they were in Vietnam. We have walked into dog squeeze again.

*They already have formed a Communist Axis. Iran and North Korea will join them.

*we were definitely the underdog in the US Revolution. We no longer do. We just have become weak, arrogant and stupid. Like Rome.

*No we are not. But it's coming. China, not Russia.

For their self interest Russia and will and mostly already have partnered up. Russia attempted to be friends with the USA and you can see how the USA used that against them because the USA doesn't want to be friends with Russia. Instead they want to break up Russia and use their assets, including gas and oil for their benefit.
