It doesn't matter to me, I don't really think about how or who my teachers or anyone does the dirty with.
Nothing, doesn't matter as it won't change the quality of their teaching.
But takes a lot of courage to do such a thing, as they would face a huge backlash and discrimination from parents and students.
I think that this shouldn't be a thing. A teacher's sexually definitely does not concern their students in my opinion.
Teachers have a right to be opened about their family or partner. Like they can have pictures with their family and/or partner or mention their partner in conversations just like any straight person would.
Now coming out? Based on how you worded the question, that seems unnecessary but it would be fine if there were a conversation between him/her with a specific student or group of students involved but nothing random.
It does no harm to anyone. Forcing people to hide their identity and their true self however, that is harmful
I think it’s weird. Teachers shouldn’t be discussing their personal lives with students whether straight or gay or whatever.
It's not appropriate to discuss your personal life in the classroom.
Simples...
If in elementary through high school it is totally inappropriate for teachers to express their sexuality differences to their students.
I don’t see the issue. If anything it gives LGBT students someone they can relate and talk to if they need it
I think that’s absolutely fine. An inclusive school will always have my support.
I don't know I guess it's fine I've never had a teacher tell me that
Because it is irrelevant to school. That is like all my teachers telling me they are heterosexual. Okay and? Im here for learning not to date you.
@BUTIMRIGHTTHO right? like we dont need to know
How is it relevant to teaching their subject? Will this improve test scores? Why does this teacher feel the need to tell their students about their sexuality?
Are they still competent to teach their subject matter? Yes? Then who the fuck cares!
Cool? I had gay teachers in HS and I also had a trans art teacher.
So what do you think?
Like @dustybiker said, if they do their job well and act professionally, nothing apart from other teachers.
I think that straight teachers need to stop shoving their heterosexual lifestyle down everyone's throat.
I'm not sure what you mean by "coming out". I feel like kids today are savvy enough to know who is gay and who is trans without anyone making a public announcement.
Suspect. Your sexual identity isn't relevant to your teaching.
I think there is completely nothing wrong with that. It also could count as supporting the LGBTQIA+ community which will make the LGBTQIA+ students more welcome on the classroom and not discriminated against.
I dunno. How do you think people should feel if I told my students, "I like having sex with women?" Would I be "celebrated?"
Sex should be kept far away from school. Doesn't matter homo or hetero.
Good! More power to `em! I don't see how it's the business of their students!
Not appropriate for school environment.
Extremely unprofessional.
That's okay.. my concern what if they will tackle about LGBT to the students who are underage then convincing them. .
No offense.
Keep it to themselves, now being their student is awkward. It’s like if you’re waitress turned out to be a robot
I don't think his life is more interesting than real education
Who cares if they do or not
I am not a stupid Republican who would have a meltdown over it
I dont like it. But maybe thats why they use that rainbow flag. To attract kids.
It's disgusting and they should be fired. Nothing against trans people but young children are not able to process such things and should not be exposed to it.
About the same as a teacher who comes out as a trump supporter
You are who you are, no matter what that curtails
Fire them.
Students don’t need to know about your goddamn sexuality in algebra class.
You shouldn't be talking about your sexuality with kids, they're probably grooming.
Another reason to abolish government-run schools.
I guess it depends on what the kids think. As long as they are not freaked I won't be.
This is not a place to be coming out or spouting rhetoric.
Why would it Be an issue, reasonable won't care about that, they'll be more concerned with the job they do.
Redneck republicans will be the only ones having a cry about this.
I think teachers should shut the fuck up about this and do the job they were told to do
I don't care because in high school my theater teacher was gay
They’re fcking weirdos. I don’t go around telling other people I’m heterosexual.
I wouldn't have my child around them. Until they are 14-15ish. So I can explain to them.
I find it odd that a teacher would share there sexuality at all
Groomers. The only thing I ever knew about my teachers was their name and if they had kids (and that was because they had pictures of them on their desk).
they should be fired. that has no place in schools
I don’t think they need to put their personal life out there. There are boundaries you don’t cross as an educator. They should remain professional.
Doesn’t make a difference. As long as they do their job!
Agreed. Unless it can be expressively shown that their announcement is causing a direct reduction in their work performance, I do not care so long as they get the job done. If it does however, then that's when we have a problem.
Totally inappropriate and transexual teachers should be barred from teaching students.
“Come out” or just tell their students that they are gay
I feel like they are grooming kids when they do that.
They should be fired. Soyciety is gay enough already
Why do they have to announce it?
I would leave and never come back.
Am I allowed to answer without getting banned?
I think they ain't teaching a class
i think it's cool
It's cool for them to be but no need to tell kids what you like to do in your free time. And no point in telling this your trans, they prob will know, and if they dont they have no need to know anyway.
well the whole idea of just saying "coming out" is vague, so it depends how. i think for being trans it makes sense, since that literally impacts your pronouns and perhaps name, but it would probably be best for the students if you waited till a new school year to adapt it. being gay or trans, i think it's fine if you casually say it. most teachers in high school or even middle school (depends on the grade) are relaxed and will talk minorly about their lives outside of school
I agree with indirectly telling them aka talking about husband or wife. But I'm looking at the question as a person who is directly coming out to his class like they care. I guess people's answers are more how they interpreted the question.
I don't think anything about them. So what?
Their students probably already know.
Weird that they find that empowering
What’s the point?
very unprofessional and kinda creepy
