The main difference between Mexican and Puerto Ricans is that the Mexicans are not native to the United States, on the other hand, Puerto Ricans are natives of the United States as Puerto is a Territory of the United States.

You probably had a few bad experiences with Puerto Ricans vs Mexicans. We try to be open minded but when you see negative patterns in certain ethnicities/races it unfortunately rubs you the wrong way.

Personally I don’t know very many Puerto Ricans but I do know a lot of Mexicans (and I like them too). But as for prejudice you are feeling at least you are aware of it.

My advice is that next time you interact with a Puerto Rican make sure your checking yourself on how you are thinking. You might be subconsciously giving off negative body language and they subconsciously pick up on it and react accordingly. Not to say the next Puerto Rican you meet will be a saint (although it be nice if he was) but still people react to our vibes even when we are trying to act surface polite/civil.

Mexicans have sombreros and Puerto Ricans do not. Also, Mexicans tend to have very large mustaches just their God-King , Pancho Villa.

Ricky Martin is Puerto Rican and he does not have a big mustache.

I don’t know about racist, but it makes you a dang biased Earthling not to like Puerto Ricans (or any other) just because of nationality or ethnicity.
