Woman Forced To Travel From Louisiana To Abort Fetus Missing Skull

A pregnant Louisiana woman will be forced to travel to another state to abort her fetus, which is missing part of its skull and would die soon after birth, according to the woman’s attorney.
Because the fetus’ condition — acrania — is not specifically named in the state law as an exception to Louisiana’s abortion ban, Nancy Davis, 36, will travel several states away where she can obtain an abortion.

“There’s nothing I wanted more than this child,” she told told The New York Times.
But she also explained to CBS affiliate WAFB in Baton Rouge that it was excruciating to think that she was “carrying it to bury it.”

Davis’ attorney David Crump said in a statement Friday that “Ms. Nancy Davis was put in a horrifically cruel position.”
She “has had to endure unthinkable emotional pain and mounting physical risk,” Crump said.

Maybe the law should be modified to say, "medical conditions adversely affecting quality/quantity of life for mother and/or child, including but not limited to conditions such as:" so that if a condition isn't listed, but a reasonable argument could be made for its detrimental effects on quality/quantity of life, then the legal precedence could be made for conditions unlisted. Louisiana lawmakers didn't want to leave that option, apparently... I'd say their motives for the law were purely religious.

That sounds like a very sad and RARE (0.005%) medical case that should, together with rape victims, be in a general way included in law (when the health of the mother wood be endangered and/or when the embryo suffers incurable defects incompatible with life)!

Never heard of acrania before but as far as I´m informed is the skull of a child in general not even formed when it´s born but instead is ultimately forming in the first year of life.

It´s a very rare dysfunction from I have found through Wikipedia so chances are that the people that wrote the law never heard of it. So I´d agree in that case to abortion because the chance of survival of that child is low.
