Question for Americans, how much do you pay for a car?

I just saw this video where a bunch of people working in an office were asked how much they pay for a car. Every one of them would pay between $1300 - $1500 for a new car, some with multiple cars.

I’ve gotten into discussions with Americans before about the cost of living, and they always talked about their car payments too, always over $1000. I noticed that they thought that it was absolutely necessary to have a new car.

Is that what you do? Why?

Seems crazy to me to pay that much. I buy a car and run it into the ground before I buy a new one, I probably pay as much as they pay in a month in a year.

My car was 5k total, my husband's truck was 12k total. We just paid the whole thing in full both times. Stuff costs a lot less where we live than it does in most places though.

It all depends on your credit history. I bought a $23k used car and I only need to pay like $300/month to pay it off.

My truck was a gift, but I pay 1,200 a year for Insurance.

My last car was 25k and I find it outrageous. I would never pay more than that ever for a car.
