What's up with big empires being ruled by people from other nations?

Well, Alexander was a conqueror, so that was kinda his thing, really.

Georgia was annexed by the USSR, so Stalin was more or less a citizen, technically.

Napoleon actually had French citizenship, because Corsica was a French territory when he was born.

Austria existed as a Federal state of Germany, so again, Hitler was technically part of the empire, at the time.

The only real outlier here is Alexander, but as I said; he was from the age when empires conquered territory, and assumed control of them. He was really no different than the Roman/Byzantine Empire, the Ottoman Empire, or the Persian Empire.

Stalin's first language was Georgian, he spoke Russian with a strong accent and Georgians consider him their national hero (even today, when it's well known of all terrible things he did), they made him a museum in Gorki.

Hitler was born and rised in Austria-Hungary, which was a separate empire and not a part of Germany.

Napoleon was born the same year France conquered Corsica. They don't consider themselves French (especially back in the days, when it was fresh) their culture is very different from French, they have their own language which is more similar to Italian than to French. Even today there are separatist movements there (and bonds with France were way weaker then).

Alexander was Hellenic as was macedon, trace and greece. There was no real sense of Greece as the country wasn't united but divided into many city states like Athens, thebes, corinth, sparta. He ruled Greece because his father conquered it. The Hellenics set up colonies in Italy, southern France, scilly, Spain, the black sea, Libya, Egypt and possibly Rome.

Catherine the Great was not Russian but German. Queen Elizabeth the 2nd is not British but German. Barracks Obama is not American but Somalian.

Greeks didn't consider Macedonians the "real Greeks" because they were a monarchy, which most of Greeks despised.

Spartans had Kings. Didn't consider them Greeks largely because they weren't big city dwellers but mostly goat herders and farmers. Greeks had a long history of Kings.

Spartan kings had little power. They were only leaders of army, but didn't have any influence to political life. Real leaders of Sparta were geronts. Not like in Macedonia, where kings were omnipotent.

Control of the army was real power in the ancient world. Macedonian Kings built that power bh deploying mass armies of infantry that were not as well armed or armored as their Greek city rivals but better trained with new tactics.

In Rome you didn't have a clerk to go with consul/dictator at war. And in Rome sometimes the dictator didn;t want to leave his office

Usually you had two consuls in the early republic. Checks and balances. Its when the checks got loosened that you had tyrants snd dictators like sulla and caesar

Alexander whas GREEK, he whas speaching greek, not a slav language.
Is same way like china, they all speach chines and whas ruled by other regions at some points in history.
Greek whasn't united back then, so in that time is imposible to tell Alexander whas greek when you have atenians, spartans, macedonians and other grups that today make Greek.
