I only know the definition about making an appearance look good. I heard there's another definition of the word in the United States. I am learning English. What is it and why do people say it's wrong? Please explain?

One definition of grooming is when an adult engages with a minor in a sexual way. It doesn’t start with overt sexual advances but usually a building of trust and small pushing of boundaries.

I talked with a girl from Russia once on a different app. She told me that she had a a best friend and when her best friend was 14 her best friend was date raped by a 19 year old boyfriend. In Russia, there are girls 13-14 that date 18-20 year old guys.
