So its kind of a trick question... I served 22 years in the military and retired from the military at 42 with full pension and life time medical benefits. So did I put my life on the line for my country, well the truth is that I put my life on the line a lot of times. But I did it more or less because it was my job, just like any police officer or firemen... I was being paid and I was gambling on my survival for long term pay off... and collect those life long benefits. So it was a multi million dollar gamble, over life and death.

I mean I will collect my pension of $40,000.00 a year, which started at age 42 for the rest of my life. Say I live to be 80 years old, that means I will make $1,600,000.00 (1.6 million) in retirement pay through out the course of my life, before you start adding in the free medical for life... so that is potentially 3 to 5 million dollars in benefits through out the rest of my life, in payment for my sacrifice and service. On top of the $800,000, plus benefits, in pay I got over the course of 22 years of service on active duty.

So did I serve my country for the benefit of the country? YES, I did. But more importantly I put my life on the line for the gamble of achieving the long term pay out. Knowing if I got killed my family would get the $400,000.00 in the life insurance policy, but if I lived they would the benefit of over 3 to 5 million in total benefits.

This is why the United States has the best military in the world... because its an all voluntary force. We have to volunteer to serve, and we quite when ever we want... no you can't just turn in a pink slip and walk away... but there are ways to get out if you really want out. But our Military is full of guys like me, that will serve and fight to the last man no matter what... because we are gambling on the long term pay off that comes with survival and we train and fight to live, not die. So if we must die, best to do it with our sword drawn, face to the enemy, scream defiance with our last breath... because at least the we know we will leave this world with our honor intact and families will get at least $400,000.00 on the insurance policy in cash, and some other life long benefits depending on the circumstance of your death.

The real sacrifice comes at the cost it takes on you mentally and physically, to survive or keep living with after. I am lucky, I am 100% healthy and still mentally in a good place, unlike so many others who are not. I gambled and won... many that survive gamble and still lose.

I love it when people disagree when like you lived it for 22 years, and they got nothing to add.

No way. The official position of the USG elites is that it hates people like me. If they want a war let the elite fight it themselves.

I'll gladly sacrifice your life and that of all your comrades if you try to invade this country. I will actively train Americans to do the same.

My life means more to me than the country does. That should be common sense. We are programmed to save ourselves before anyone else.

I would stand for my family and my community but I would not put myself on the line for a system that is so brazenly uninterested in upholding or uplifting anyone other than itself.

@Subarugirl 22 years retired highly decorated, 2 x Bronze Stars , Joint Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Purple Heart, 4 x Meritorious Service Medals... more ARCOMS and AAM's then I can remember.

I am and ex- paratrooper with 6 x combat tours in the Middle East, I was a logistics guy 72 x Combat logistics patrols, severed in the 82nd, 173rd, and Special Operations. I started out as an Infantry guy, reclassed into Logistics, retired as a Logistics Officer in the United States Army.

I was once upon a time the real deal, and I drank the Kool-Aid without ever asking or caring what the flavor was. If that makes me a self licking ice cream cone, then so be it. But I wasn't some weekend warrior, I lived at the tip of the spear for 22 years, 365 days a year, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
