If your country was attacked, would you be ready to fight and die to defend it?

I believe in peace and I've always helped out and been a sympathetic person, but I also turn to an animal when others want to hurt me, my family, my friends, my neighbours.
So what should a man do when others are sent to kill their friends, their family?
Should I start crying and ask them to leave my family alone? If crying would solve all things, I'd turn to fucking Niagara.
Should I pray we don't get hit by a bomb or stray bullet?
How can I stand watching how everything is fucked up and destroyed around me? Could I hide like a rat and hope that nobody I know is hurt? What if I'd know at the beginning of the war that nobody I know will get hurt, but millions of my country will die? How would that make me feel knowing I've let others die just because I was safe?
Sure, "we die young, the old fart politicians celebrate and don't give a shit", but an invasion would still be an invasion and it wouldn't help much to raise my hands up and say "no, I'm not fighting, the politicians should".
So while I'm against war as an aggression towards another country, as far as others invading mine goes, I hope they burn and die in the most horrific pain.
I'm going to hit them in the back of their heads with my country. (translation of a local saying).
Hopefully there will be no need, as many people will die young for stupid ambitions.
But living in Eastern Europe's Romania that is currently subjected to daily military threats from Russia (alongside our military and economical partner Poland), a conflict just seems closer and closer by the day.
Funny thing is that both Poland and Romania are part of NATO alongside Germany and others.
Why I mentioned Germany you wonder?
Because Germany was bitching about Trump being elected with help from Putin and now they are actually shaking hands with the russians from Gazprom in order to build a gas pipe from Russia to Germany.
The same Germany that is pointing fingers at how bad all the others are every single time, they now have their former prime-minister (Gerhard Schroder) working for a Russian company and lobbying for them in the European Parliament.
Funny how the world is being split right before our eyes, yet people are foolish and gullible enough to not even realize it, but instead to believe that Germany is the way to go.
The same happened with Hitler where people saw nothing wrong with him (though it was obvious he had expansion intentions), then the next thing, the whole world was burning.
See the documentary from HIstory channel called "rise and fall of the third Reich" which presents the events from a social point of view and how germans and europeans were seeing the whole situation.
Watching that documentary I got a shiver down the spine seeing that people nowadays are once again brainwashed at blindly believing their leaders are "democrats", yet the expansion intentions are ever more present with Russia and the fact that Germany is helping out economically only makes me wonder what will happen in the following 7 years.
Yeah, but I'm more likely to defend my community because all my friends and family live there. If it is in peace or relatively safety, I would travel to other parts of the country. I won't be killing anyone if I could help it, but I'm willing to help out as much as I can.
Besides, it isn't the country I'm fighting for, it's the people who happen to live in this country. I'm not trained in combat, but I know first aid, photography and mechanical engineering so I'll provide my skills there.
Absolutely not. I think you should send all the Rothschilds and the Rockefellers first. Or perhaps all their young family members first. I don't see why it should be the proletariat. Start with the peerage classes and see how enthusiastic they are then. interest would decline overnight.
The ruling classes only ever want wars when it's the proletariat that get killed. Smedley Butler is one of the most famous military American figures and he figured out that war is a racket. He wrote a very good book I would encourage you to read it. Look up his documentaries on YouTube.
Not that it matters but one of the banking establishments tried to recruit Smedley Butler to replace Roosevelt as the American dictator. It was unsuccessful and led to a very interesting court case called the business plot. There was a good book written about it called the plot to take over the White House.
My allegience is to God and God alone. I am commanded never to take up arms.
So, I wouldn't defend in a military sense.
The Bible actually does condone self-defense. And whether or not Christians can fight in war isn't entirely clear in the Bible nor agreed upon in the Christian world.
The bible does allow self defense as a means of survival
Jesus said it it doesn't matter what it was in and that is the thing people say they are Christian and then do things completely against what Christianity tells you to do people say they live by the bible then support LGBT and bash the true Christians who are against LGBT you can't be half a Christian either you are one or you aren't.
@Triple7s Jesus said not to do eye for an eye. That's the turn the other cheek verse in Matthew. "Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also."

it would depend entirely on why it was being attacked and what i was defending it from
Some how i find it interesting that 90% of woman aren't willing to defend there country, but hope that man will do it. Where there is equality? Any thrid wave feminist can enlighten me on it? xD
I come from a long line of warriors and soldiers. Many of them fought and died for Ireland. Many of them fought in WW2 and WW1. I'd gladly take up arms.
I really don't think many people on GAG though are made of the material that requires war. Especially if they're millennials and Gen Z. They wouldn't even be able to survive in a tent with no shower for 3 days.
(I spent 2 weeks in the woods with no bathroom and had to make my own fire)
Only if it was attacked for reasons I don’t support. If my country dropped a bomb somewhere and was attached because of it I would not support my country.
Nope, for all I know the attack was staged by the government to get us into another useless war.
Or infecting black soldiers with syphilis on purpose and allowing it to go untreated just to see what would happen.
Or having soldiers in trenches at the edge of a nuclear bomb blast so the. gov could see the effects of radiation on a living person.
Or any of hundreds of other things that qualify as crimes.
@Barrabus_the_Free OK for the Like funding terrorist. If we citizens funded terrorist, we'd be instantly thrown in federal prison with no rights.
You got that right. If we did ANY of the many, many things us. gov has done, we'd be in prison for crimes against humanity.
Of course I would. This country is my home. My family and friends live here. If someone were to attack the country then they're attacking the things I listed. I don't appreciate people attacking my friends or family. I would fight to protect both...
Not to mention my family history has a long line of serving to protect. We fought in the revolutionary war, civil war, WWI, WWII, and Vietnam. I'm proud of my family for being a good example of protecting the people and things they love. I would do the same.
Depends on why. My country might be attacked on perfectly reasonable grounds like if another Hitler came to power but this time in Sweden. I would also not be too bothered if Norway for example conquered Sweden since its still a government I can support. If I saw a country such as Russia invade however I would fight to the death to defend Sweden.
I'd die for my family. Not for an artificial geographic distinction between land masses... or for the politicans who control the ideology of said landmasses...
Your people is a platonic extension of your family, if you'd die for your family you should be ready to die for your country as well.
@esotericstory no... I do not define family that widely. If they were threatened would you die for your local grocer? Your cleaner? Your teacher? If the answer is yes - your a saint and I'll leave it there. If no.. then your a hypocrite and I can't argue in the absence of logic. If I'm missing something.. do let me know.
I'd fight and die for my people. I am a political activist I am fighting the nonviolent fight for the self determination of my people. I wish all peoples on earth could have full self determination to determine their own destiny one day.
@esotericstory you lost me at "fighting the non violent fight". This post ulis about war, yeah? And you didn't respond to my points... would you give up. your life to save the greengrocer?
Id do it for all my people. I am an activist. Not a terrorist.
@esotericstory so if someone was in trouble you should take a bullet for them? No matter who they were?
This question is about dying for your country.
@esotericstory and you said I should view everyone in my country as my family. My question was a natural extension of your point.. I'd die for my family. NOT the greengrocer. Not coz some politician safe in his office tells me too. (Unless I'm drafted and have no choice)
If you fight for a politician, you dont fight for your country. Government and country are not the same. Your country is your patria, thats an ideal that you want to die for, if you want to keep babbling about greengrocers go ahead make my day.
@esotericstory actually you babbled first about seeing the country as an extension of my family. My mistake in think9ng that could have been a constant argument When presented with a logical argument you couldn't rebutt.. you got insulting. Go die for whatever it is you want, but I'm done with the conversation. Your one of those rebel needing a cause types. No point in engaging further.
Depends on what you mean by ready. I am willing to fight, I don't know if I am prepared to do so in the most effective way, or well enough to survive it.
Sure... Most Americans would fight for their country if we were invaded regardless of the crap they talk online. When it gets real, they would do what was needed.
We don't have an army and have two of the world's biggest military superpowers supporting us. I wouldn't fight because I wouldn't legally be allowed to in the first place
Principally, in a heartbeat. But I'd have to consider my family, girlfriend etc. It is a hard place to put them all in to worry about me going to war, possibly never returning.
I don't believe that a country is worth dying for. I believe the only thing worth dying for is religion, charity, family and loved ones.
I don't think religion is worth dying for. I'm not gonna die for some dude floating in the sky who is apparently watching us but does nothing to help.
I'd try my best to defend it, but realistically I would probably get killed pretty early on.
I'd probably still be unsuccessful.
Nah send the politicians to the frontline. I'm sure their decisions would be the reason why we are at war. I didn't choose that shit. I'd be out.
I would, I have pride in my homeland and I will put down my life to protect it.
There have been countless men who have strived to make my country free and keep it safe. I have no right to do anything less than that.
What idiot would dislike what I said?
Ya sounds like a party
It would be more fun if you had no family no allegiance to anyone. Just you in this world
Then its a real party
Not yet because I don't own a gun yet. So the best I could hope for would be a guerilla army with no aerial forces, even then, it's literally a knife in a gun fight.
Na. I don't choose sides by what flag I'm under. I would fight for whatever side is in the right.
No one was.
Na. I'd maybe consider PTSD recovery for soldiers but I'd stay out of both sides.
yeees, finally a chance to feel alive.
Bring it, I want a good fight.
For sure. If America was put into a defensive war then I would join up as soon as I could to do my part and defend her. Otherwise I would stay out for the sake of staying with my girlfriend.
Define attacked? obviously i believe our way of life is worth defending/ fighting for. But have we exhausted every effort before war?
I don't have a country. I sure as hell wouldn't do *ANYTHING* for this shithole where I was born and live.
USA.
Because this place decided that I was the enemy long before I was born, simply because I'm male and white. And it treats me like such. So fuck this shithole.
In some ways, Europe is even worse. I have buddies that live in Europe, and when they talk about how it is there I think that as shitty as the US is, at least we're not disarmed and swarmed with muzzies.
What's happened to Europe really sucks. There were places I wanted to visit but now I don't really want to go anywhere on the continent if it's west of Poland. Luckily Eastern Europe seems to be keeping their wits.
Nah i really couldn't care about war so i wouldn't get involved.
And i could just move country cause England is shit anyway.
My country did not provide *me* anything, so I see no reason to side with my country. However I share the pride with Germany's achievements.
I'd consider it. If I didn't get in, I'd probably join 'another department' of the government.
Simples...
Absolutely.
It's what is expected of me, it's what I must do. What kind of a man would I be if I ran away from war?
I would fight and die to defend the planet against alien invaders.
I would only Fight to protect my Family. Each to his own.
Have you ever fought an Englishman before? We don't need guns, I would simply invite the foreign invaders for tea and a game of football.
I'm not ready but I would fight for my country if we were being invaded.
I'm.
What is the point of sitting idle when your home itself is in danger.
If it was at this very moment then I wouldn't be allowed to enlist since I am not 18.
Yes I am. Every people deserves the right to self determination, if we need to fight to maintain it or to increase it then I will.
Only if it brought itself to me and my mother directly.
No I wouldn't. I wasn't born here, this country has done me no favors and I don't believe any country is worth dying for anyway... plus I am too old.
I'm not a soldier, so I'm not sure how I could ever be ready for something like this.
Depends on who is attacking and why, I suppose. I serve God first.
honestly it depends on the attack where its at and how I would take it. I wouldn't fight for the country cause im not that man. I salute people who are that selfless
what if we were attacked by beautiful sex hungry amazonian princesses? no, i would surrender
No way would the 30 and under on here fight anyone. They would run for Canada or Mexico. That is why we need women in armed forces , US no longer has real men.
Yup, I don't believe any of them either. The 30 and under group, especially women, don't have it in them to fight. They're too pampered and dependent. Even if they're so-called "independent" from their families they're not the fighting stock.
Let's be real. Most people here aren't ready for an attack
It depends on who is attacking and what their goal is...
Myself and my people yes the country no there are people who signed up to do that and are getting paid for it so let them do it
I would refuse to fight any government orchestrated bullshit war. (*Like almost all wars)
No if I am dead, how to the independence benefit me!!!
Besides if it's one government or another, is not really worth my life.
@YHL6965 this is what does in power want you to think, to get you to fight for them.
But what is a country or a nation, exceĂĄt identity policy gone wild? and your heritage can't to touched by anyone.
Your family is worth fighting for, but fleeing may be more beneficial to your family, especially if it means your death.
Most countries have some sort of freedom and some tyranny, even the US have tyranny imposed by both Republicans and Democrats.
Patriotism is but an illusion, those in power want you to believe in, in order to control and use your as cannon fodder when needed be.
Sure some nations and rules are better than others, but none are worth dying for.
l am not able to go to any war in this world l can't say any more l have done my share of things in this world its called dirty work end of
Depends what they are fighting and why. If we caused the problem then no
I believe all the wars been already planned so I won't care.. I'll try to run away..
Who attacks Canada, honestly.
im nonconfrontational irl and im can fight for shit
No, but if the Pope calls Christians to reclaim Egypt I'd be the first to fight
Yes i would
Thanks
@Turkishkurd on behalf of my idiotic countryman, if like to apologize. Ignore those idiots, there are better Indians here.
@tongari what the hell are you doing. If you can't be serious then get off the sight and stop making the rest of us look bad.
@sasukeuchiha7 i guess there are
@Turkishkurd thank you
I would be in the thick of it...
I thought my taxes did that.
No?
Hmm.
Hell no. Nation states need to go extinct already.
Because it’s hindering societal progress beyond belief.
To some extent I am I suppose
No because they thrive on stereotypes
Every patriotic thought ever.
National identity is based entirely on stereotypes of the own country in juxtaposition to the other
What's the problem with merging cultures?
Cultures don't disappear. They aren't static concepts. They are dynamic processes. Cultures constantly evolve anyways.
And the world is becoming increasingly monocultural anyways
The only way to erase nations is by imperialism and colonization, its been tried already. It was a massive failure.
@esotericstory Lmao give it a few decades.
Nope. I feel no patriotism what so ever.
I'm not sure my country is worth saving...
United States of America.
We make the worst examples of our citizens rich and famous. We actively keep education out of our schools, we are bringing back deadly pathogens that had nearly been whipped out completely. We are 22 trillion dollars in debt. Our president is a a punchline, not a political leader. Our actual political leaders are actually making it easier for us to get killed for just trying to make something of ourselves. And we bully the rest of the world into submission while ignoring the real problems.
Humanity is built on war and pillaging.
I don't agree. They did try staying out if WWII after all.
Sure, but they didn't get full involved untill Pearl harbor. Then pretty quickly ended the whole then. And then spent a shit load of money to help rebuild.
They sure had enough equipment to end the largest war in human history in two days...
1945. August 6th, and 9th
Sure, but those are the two days that ended the war.
As much as I hate this shithole USA, we started taking part in the European theater of WWII a lot earlier than June 6, 1944. By that point we'd already been fighting the Germans in Italy (starting in July of 1943), as well as the strategic bombing campaign against Germany, and various operations in Norway, plus sinking U-boats and shooting down German planes.
@Barrabus_the_Free well sure, that was after Pearl Harbor.
Yes, I know, I was responding to the other guy's comment about US involvement not starting until D-Day. There were a lot of Americans already taking part before Pearl, and the US was giving equipment, food, ammo, etc, to the Brits and commies long before that.
@Barrabus_the_Free don't even get me started on the blunder that was D day. One if the bloodiest American military fuck ups in history.
Interesting. Not exactly the way I've heard anyone else describe it. The objectives were accomplished, and at a lower cost in lives than assaults on other parts of Europe might have been.
How do you figure it was a blunder?
@Barrabus_the_Free they landed in one of the most heavily fortified sections of the beach because they missed the coordinates. They couldn't back track by that point because they were already seen and had to commit or casualties would have been even higher. No disrespect to the soldiers on the ground. They fought their god damn asses off that day. But thousands of troops died because some one fucked up.
That's... not true at all. I don't know where you got that.
Some of the boats didn't land in the correct LZ, they drifted because of the wind, but many of those ended up landing in less heavily-defended areas.
The beaches were well-defended, but the resistance mostly stopped there. Once the men had managed to get off the beach, the Germans didn't have enough force to push them back.
The landing at Normandy had the potential to be a disaster, and almost was, but compared to some of the landings in the Pacific it was smooth as silk.
I'd like to know where you've read or heard that D-Day was a huge blunder. I like reading/watching history, especially military history, and a source with a different take on the operation might be very interesting.
@Barrabus_the_Free You're right, I forgot about the Italian campaign. However, D-Day was in deed a disaster : the meteorological conditions were horrible for a landing, most of the artillery missed the defenses and hit the villages behind, leaving a lot of defenses intact. Most amphibious tanks sank as well. All of these factors greatly increased the losses on Allies' side. Fortunately however, thanks to the big amount of ressources, D-Day succeeded.
The weather sucked, but because the planners wanted a certain phase of the moon and tides, they could delay 24 hours but no more.
You're right about the artillery, and even worse was the aerial bombing. The bombers ended up scaring a lot of French cows by bombing their pastures instead of the German defenses, because they waited to drop their bombs due to cloud cover. The British naval artillery did a great job, however.
There are things that could have gone better, but it was far from being a disaster.
@Barrabus_the_Free Most losses were American. French, British, Canadian and other forces struggled less on some other beaches.
And some of them faced even stiffer resistance than the Americans did.
That link is to an article about France honoring Special Operations veterans. There are some below it about Vietnam. I will continue to read that page, it looks interesting. Thanks.
For Canada? Maybe if it was less Leftist.
No. Human lives are worth more than a state.
