Where I live is colder than anywhere in Britain. I can get by without heat. So can everyone else if they prepare for it. Food is another matter. The ironic part is that the colder you are the more food you need.

As for dying, I'd rather freeze, but I think it would be hard to kill me that way.

Not really a fighter. I used to like winter camping. I've slept outside with no shelter in -22F (-30C).

Good sleeping bag. It's nice and cozy at -22. Just wearing long johns and thermal undershirt. No pants, shirt or coat. I probably could have gone much colder but I never tested.

We were depending on Russian gas. But you specifically mentioned oil. There is only one oil refinery for Russian oil, accounting for some 2,5% of petrol.

Don't worry, Joel, the US Treasury Department thinks that the newly imposed G7 price caps on Russian energy will make it easier for China and India to bargain for lower prices that will 1) mean less money for Putin to wage war and 2) result in them passing on lower costs to Europe when it buys it. You can't make this stuff up.

How about just taking off the shackles for good here in the US instead of playing games that won't work?
