No they tried that and it completely failed, I will say it could be ironic since King Charles the 1st was beheaded last time Britten tried to get rid of the monarchy, and Charles the 2nd brought the monarchy back

This debates been going on for centuries. The British tried by chopping the head of Charles 1 but that didn't work out well.

@Sevenpointfive English and British monarchs have been being crowned in Westminster Abbey since 1066 ("according to the ancient English rite"). There were plenty of kings before then. Maybe the plural is slight exageration, but well over 1000 years.
