As exposed as we were in Vietnam. I've always said Russia when you take away the nuclear threat is just a paper tiger. Look at the makeup of it's military capabilities. It's a defensive makeup mainly. Economically it cannot match the U. S.. But that doesn't mean it can't subdue a country like Ukraine. But much like Russia fought a proxy war with the United States in Vietnam (no one ever talks about the military aid Russia gave North Vietnam). The United States is fighting a proxy war with Russia. I think I think Russia underestimated how much military assistance we'd give a non NATO nation. And I think everyone's been surprised by the fighting spirit of the Ukrainian people willing to hold thier homeland at whatever the cost.
