Looks like 62% of republicans do
Christian nationalism, a belief that the United States was founded as a white, Christian nation and that there is no separation between church and state, is gaining steam on the right.

Personally, I'd like to see an end to all religion. It's a pointless relic from an era prior to science that's been usurped by certain people as a means of gaining power, and controlling the masses.
That being said, the United States was founded on the concept of religious freedom, and is most definitely not a Christian nation, nor should it ever be. If these people want a Christian nation, they can do what the pilgrims did: leave, and settle their own country.
Ah yes I'm sure "Christian nationalism" will become the new Neo Nazi, or a new boogeyman for the Liberals.. 😂.. As if the culture isn't already left leaning..
Do you have counter evidence than what’s presented here?
ah ok so we can just ignore you then. cool.
Well the whole article is deceptive because there were only two questions on the polls and they were vaguely asking if you would consider American a "Christian nation".. Said nothing about "Christian nationalism" or even race or theocratic take over making America a "Christian state".. The article was basically saying that Christians Conservatives think that America is a Christian nation.. They do not define what “declare” means. This is just another bias partisan poll.
Absoulately, we've already seen the effects that irreligousity has had on the US since the latter half of the 20th century. That is to say, I dont think the country should suddenly become intolerant of other religions or of atheists but that christianity should be the norm.
You are unamerican then
“That is to say, I dont think the country should suddenly become intolerant of other religions or of atheists but that christianity should be the norm.”
That is pretty much whats going to happen if we go this route. Guaranteed. Read up on history more
You think the united states will become a Christian country AND intolerant of those that are not? Also, what do you mean by unamerican?
If you support this that means you do not support the 1st amendment do our constitution which is about as fundamentally American as you can get… hence you’re ‘unamerican’.
And absolutely I believe they will be intolerant of anyone not only not Christian but not white either. They pretty much already are.
Anyone who isn't white or male will become 2nd class citizens or worse.
When the US was founded, it was majority Christian but they still had the freedom to pratice your religion. You still do, but the norm has been leaning more atheistic recently rather than Christian. Or by the question you're talking about the US becoming a theocracy instead?
It is possible that the US will become intolerant of non Christians in the near future but I think it's unlikely, I think it'll become intolerant of people in general. Also, " Anyone who isn't white or male will become 2nd class citizens or worse," what makes you think that?
“Or by the question you're talking about the US becoming a theocracy instead?”
Yes
“It is possible that the US will become intolerant of non Christians in the near future but I think it's unlikely, I think it'll become intolerant of people in general.”
Thats naive then. Again read up on history. Read up especially about what happens when a religion becomes inseparable from the government. Holocaust is a good start… how about the Taliban? Iran?
“Anyone who isn't white or male will become 2nd class citizens or worse," what makes you think that?”
History
Ok, then I think I understand better what you're saying. I'm not exactly in favor of the United States being a tyrannical theocracy like the countries you've mentioned of course but on the same hand, many of US laws have been based on Judeo-Christian values (most that are the utmost basic stuff).
I still think it's unlikely the US will go back into oppressing non-white non-males through, usually countries oppress the minorities if anyone at all and the US is currently becoming increasingly non-white. The non-Male part I'm unsure about, it could happen as a response to modern feminism as you see now with the redpill drama.
Meanwhile fundamentalist Christians invading Afghanistan and Iraq and wreaking havoc across the entire region, banning abortion, worshipping a pathological liar as he attempts a coup, responding to kids being massacred at school by adding more guns, spending a deadly pandemic attacking health experts and proudly flouting the measures put in place to contain it, being equally irresponsible on the scientifically proven problem of human-induced climate change, idolizing a double killer because his victims were lefties, etc.
Ah yes, the threat of irreligousity...
@Pot8o yeah, both sides believe dumb stuff and just because someone says they're religious doesn't necessarily mean they actually act accordingly. Biden is supposed to be catholic and yet supports abortion. Also "idolizing a double killer because his victims were lefties" and "eagerly siding with a mass-murdering dictator over his thousands of innocent victims" who are these two that you're referring to? I didn't get that reference.
@Pot8o I've never heard of anyone on either side respect Putin beyond the fact that he's a murdering maniac with nuclear weapons. Rittenhouse, i see what you mean. Pretty much every protest in 2020 and 2021 ended up with tens of people killed so ok.
@Pot8o and Anthony Huber held a knife to his brother's face while strangling him for not cleaning the house, out a knife to his stomach and threatened to "gut him like a pig", and forced his own grandmother and brother to clean the house while holding them hostage with a knife. Another great guy, right?
NO!! ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! (Sorry for all the caps and exclamation points). P. S. I thought for a while my friend from college is a Christian but he's actually Hindu. That's because he's spoken about God on several occasions. However, I know he wouldn't support this either.

Fuck no. Keep that religious cult bullshit away. A theocracy is one of the worst forms of government I can imagine. That's how the Arabic nations went from the pinnacle of human progress to an oppressive hellscape in a very very short period of time.
I'm not American but I don't support this. The first inhabitants of the United States weren't white, so calling it a "white nation" makes no sense to me.
Also, I believe that people should be free to choose their religion or to have no religion at all. The government shouldn't be responsible for the people's religious beliefs.
The world is such a messed up place, I personally don't let religion be the most important factor in my decision making skills. But I would also add that many of the most adverse and unreliable aspects of western society, are caused directly by Christianity. I personally wouldn't want the ignorant elites of the religious community dictating the direction of my life.
As long as that means they aren't forcing people to be Christian I'm for it, since i am Christian
That is pretty much what they mean and want. They want a theocracy
hey, maybe it's just how america wants you to be this way and you don't... so they look at you with daggers, it's not a good idea. And I feel that be very hypocritcal to call the US a christian nation
I feel we should practice whatever religion we want to I believe in Jesus Christ and God but that is my belief I pray at home but that's it
You believe in separation of church and state?
@Still-alive That is confusing question for me sorry
Why?
Definitely not. Besides there are so many differences among Christians themselves regarding their beliefs who decides which one they mean?
I am a Christian and I would never be okay with forcing people to follow my religion.
#1) Freedom of religion
#2) As a Christian I'm seeing Christians misappropriating the Bible. You can't be a Christian and hate on other religions or people.
Ew gross, no thanks
They can take their evil religious occult elsewhere
Hell no. The US Congress is prohibited from enacting a state religion and that's the way it should stay. Sorry Jesus jumpers.
Leave religion out of politics. Religion is a personal choice and should never be imposed.
Absolutely the fuck not lmfaoo
Nope.
