Is the USA the most patriotic country in the world?

In my country we have the image of the USA as a very patriotic country, with American flags hanging in all the streets and houses, 🤣 I don't know if it's a caricature, it certainly is, but I think there must be some truth in this image.

The contrast with Europe seems to me striking, in Europe patriotism has become something quite negative.

No, sadly not. Americans are no where near as patriotic as they were 20 years ago or even 40 years ago. In fact a great many Americans hate their country and they are ashamed of it. You see more rainbow LGBT flags flown than “Old Glory.” Any praise or good things that America has done are immediately shouted down with cries of “but they enslaved Africans!!!” or “but what about the Native Americans! Imperialism! War!” and they point out instances of where America has fallen short of expectations—either their own, or those qualities and maxims espoused by our Founding Fathers in our Constitution and Bill of Rights.

In short, to them, to MANY, America was simply founded by a bunch of evil greedy rich racist White men. And everything it has produced is inherently flawed because of this.

Frankly, I’m a throwback. An ape. My family has fought for America in literally every war going back to the American Revolution. I too went to war and served. I would give my life for America, ten times over if I could, and there are those who would call me a sucker for doing so.

They do not believe that America is good or even better than any other nation out there. In fact they believe it is WORSE. “Look at how “progressive” the Nordic countries are. And oh the French are just so much more sensible and sophisticated” they say. They believe in globalism. Being a “citizen of the world.” They do not love their country because they were never TAUGHT to love it.

They were raised to despise it.

Well, the problem is the lack of nuance and contextualization. Of course America is not perfect but no nation is. The USA has brought more positive than negative to the world whether it is at different levels, medicine, science, technology etc.

But with the most extreme militants it is impossible to debate because they become violent.

Oh is in France we have exactly the same thing in more we as England we have colonized many countries then we are really very very very mean for these militants.

I was in Belgium for the anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, in Bastogne. The people there loved American servicemen. The US liberated Belgium from the Nazis.

I was in my military dress uniform and everywhere I went people were telling me, “Merci, merci l’American. Merci!”

It was very touching. Moving. My fellow Americans have never shown me that kind of love that the Belgians showed me.

I stopped into a little pastry shop to see their desserts, and a man approached me. He had two young girls with him, maybe 13, and in his broken English he explained that the two girls with him wanted to have their picture taken with me, an American in his uniform. A total stranger.

How do Americans treat me?

Like I was some kind of baby killer who was blood thirsty because I was in Iraq. A dumb guy suckered by the government into fighting in some foreign war.

I didn’t pick to go to Iraq. I was ordered to go there. 🤷‍♂️

You have served your country with dignity and you deserve the greatest respect for that. I suppose that most Americans are still grateful to their soldiers for defending their country's national interests, freedom and values.

I'm also someone who can trace his family to the mid-1600's in "America" I grew up in a house with a revolutionary war issue flint lock personally owed and used by a direct ancestor hanging over the mantle. Also, plenty of pictures on the walls of ancestors who fought in the civil war, and can show you where the old family plantation was. I have friends and other people I have met that are the descendants of the families my family used to own as slaves. My family also has a history of military service and has fought in every conflict up to and including Iraq #1 and Afghanistan. I own land and pay my taxes and have a couple guns for hunting and a couple for target shooting/ home defense too.

So, understand that I speak as a patriot when I say that, Yes, America was built on a foundation of exploitation and bigotry. That is correct.

BUT, the future of America can still be salvaged, it doesn't have to be too late. We need to focus on the best of our history, never forget the crimes of our forefathers and fight back against those who seek to corrupt and control us.

Fight back against the corporate interests.
Fight back against religious indoctrination.
Fight back against the Russian sponsored propaganda.

Fix the public education system.
Ensure proper medical care for all people.
End the militarization of our police forces.
Invest in our USPS system.
Remember the words on lady liberty, open the borders to anyone willing to come here and become an American citizen.

And yes, protect American freedoms to choose your own partner and maintain the right to control over our own bodies.

I fly a big old glory in my yard, take it down every night and in bad weather and run it up every morning and once the sky clears. I also support my many friends who are LGBTQ+* and figure BLM has the right of things too.

America is supposed to be about supporting an individual's personal freedoms and the right to stand up and be counted if our leaders make bad choices.

The flag is an empty symbol. Most US flags aren’t even made in the United States of America. Most flag wavers can’t explain the symbolism designed into the flag. Most citizens have no idea how many flags have represented this land over the centuries. Too few people understand the meaning of the national anthem, let alone the true story behind it. In the US, patriotism is like everything else, mostly fake and just for show. I’ve met maybe a half dozen true patriots in my lifetime. The rest are just clowns fighting over top billing.

Most patriotic… hell no. Nationalists.. yes. But patriotism to me (meaning it’s different from the definition slightly) that people in this country would sacrifice for the good of the country. Ain’t no one in America sacrificing shit unless you are in the military. The rest have an agenda to get there stuff and live comfortably. And not a lot of people fly flags in front of there house.
