Can my landlady enter my apartment when I'm not there?

I found out my landlady had entered my apartment because she stopped me when I got back home and asked why I'm keeping money in cash under my bed. She said she's not sure what to make of It or if she should have called the cops because I am currently unemployed and I shouldn't have that much money in cash and she thinks I may be doing something illegal.

I said that I pay right on time every month and never caused her any problem and she said I was right but if she thinks I'm involved in some kind of funny business she will call the cops.

This happened four days ago now. Today she visited me to talk and has asked me how much money I have. I didn't tell her the exact amount, should I be worried?

The general rule in most places is a hard no. While you rent it, it is yours. Not theirs. They can therefore only enter with permission from you or a court order and such. Exceptions being if it was written into the contract or there is good reason to believe you're dead inside or something. In which case it would still be a court order deal.

You would probably be able to sue for a small sum. Nowhere close to fair compensation. Do find out why they entered though.

I think it’s legal for her to enter but check into your lease and state laws. Regardless, it’s creepy that she’s judging you for keeping cash under your bed. Lots of people do that. Unemployed or not. It’s not illegal to keep cash in your home lol she’s got no proof you’re doing anything wrong. She needs to stay in her lane and quit acting like a nosy grandma.

Most of the time legally they have to notify you ahead of time before they enter a residence. there are exceptions for police or emergency like burst water pipe. Like people said below you need to look up local law, but the law your looking for is usually called Landlord Right of Entry.

I'm not sure where you are located, but in most places, a landlord can only enter a tenant's rental property with approval of the tenant, or in the case of emergency (for example, the building is on fire). In this situation, it sounds like neither of those is true, so your landlady may have violated the law.

This is considered trespassing. Do you have a law for trespassers in your country? That's absolutely wrong and even horrible. You're the one who should call the cops and report her. She must not even touch your stuffs. SMH.

No. It is not legal to enter without your permission. As long as you aren’t behind rent and she doesn’t have a court order allowing her to change the locks and remove your things.
