I don't give money, usually because I don't have any. I tend to buy food or living essentials. You'd be surprised how many homeless people are genuinely grateful for a toothbrush and toothpaste.
There's too many people quick to judge a homeless person before they know the story.
Give them the respect you'd give anyone else you met.
Anything but money. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but the locals who help with the homeless give food, clothing, help find shelter, etc., but money just allows those homeless so inclined to buy alcohol or drugs.

I was homeless in my life and I appreciated the clothing and accessories instead of money or food. A homeless person knows exactly where to find food and how to obtain money but getting clothing and accessories from people felt more of personal gift then a hard knocks gift such as money or food.
Advice.
"Stop getting drunk, go to a shelter, and clean up your life."
Option E for me! F*ck those people!
Not all homeless people are the same. Some people are homeless by circumstance and some are homeless by choice.
I will say this. I absolutely despise gutter punks.
No matter what you give him he will somehow trade it to buy drugs or booze
Not a damn thing. I used to be homeless and the greatest lesson I've learned is do for yourself.
I think the best thing which we can give to someone homeless is money, as they can buy what they need most with this money.
Definitely food, but many will refuse food because all they want is booze.
Food is the best
A roof over their head.
A house.
1,5l bottle vodka.
Ugh.
