Why don't people openly state their own bigotry instead of twisting into a pretzel to prove how not bigoted they are?

It usually goes like this, someone openly makes a bigoted comment about minorities or gay or transgender people then when they are called out, they would rather twist into a pretzel instead of just apologizing for offended the group they don't like.

Because Liberals always tried to stuff you into a box where you don't belong. Like Nationalist and Supremacist aren't the same things for instance.
